Yeah, that's L6/bone micarta/red fiber spacers-all materials I got from Wulf's shop moving saleQuick question: Your LCR is in 9mm? How does that work? Or are you approximating 9mm as .38?
Also, thanks J W Bensinger for ID'ing your awesome little "Le Picouer".
Is the big fixed blade one of your own creations?
I love the knife, JW, that is why I asked.
Bawanna, if that is your gear you are really my hero. That's fantastic. Want a 1911 bad. And sheesh that Thompson is outstanding!
SG, the reason I asked about the LCR is I have a .38 LCR and I'd love a 9mm one instead! Share ammo with the Block and for all of the other reasons you stated. Neat!
I've had my eye on one of those Wilson Combat Beretta 92G's... who knows... it'd just be nice to get a decent range toy..accuracy and whatnot, yknow.
I do shoot the 26 pretty darn well but a 19 would be nice and if I could go back in time.......
But budgets being what they are, I'm sort of at an impasse at the moment... Don't believe in 'sell' so I have to work with what I got or get creative to a degree I haven't been able to muster yet. Was doing pretty good in the cashflow department till I had this beautiful childI still think it's the best deal going!
I held a Wilson once. Just holding it the quality oozed out all over my hand. Pretty awesome. And it was his bottom of the line entry level. Master Grade would probably completely blow my mind. Well what's left of it that is. A few sharp pointy things here have already blowed up most of it.
stwm, that is my gear. The Colt is a 1942 model. It came out of a friend of mines duffle bag along with a Quality Hardware and Machine M1 Carbine. Brought home from Korea as I recall. Hadn't been out of the duffle bag since. Still loaded when he took it out. And he gave me both.
I had a fella bring me a 1913 model, that was his grandfathers as I recall. It made me cry. He wasn't a gun guy, wanted me to go through it and clean and oil it. Said he might just drop it off someday as he knew I loved that gun right down to my toes. Probably never happen but I think about it often.
I had an LCR in .38 that I bought when my daughter was born. I wanted an SP101, but I figured that with all the daddy stuff I had to carry (diaper bag, folding stroller, the baby), I would want a lighter gun.
I couldn't hit a dang thing with the .38.
So a few years go by. Gone is the diaper bag and the stroller. The kid can walk on her own...usually. Daddy is still a sucker when she wants packed around now at 60+ pounds. I luck into a .357 SP101. It's printing fist sized off hand groups at 25 yardsAlright. So I guess my aim has gotten better in 3+ years. Cool.
I decide I need a light .38 for when the SP is too much. I buy a 642. Ah what a joy to carry...still can't hit a dang thing.
So i get disgusted, but if you ask my wife, that's nothing unusual. Gone is the 642 toward another SP101. This one in .327 and sporting a kit-length 4" barrel. Sweet little tack driver and a great trail gun when you want something more than a .22 but you're not loaded for bear, literally. But I digress...
A few months back I was in Academy Sports and here they had a 9mm LCR on clearance for about what a .38 version would cost. I decided that even if it bucked and grouped horribly due to my lack of practice, I could at least AFFORD to shoot it more. I read all the reviews. The harsh recoil, why a 9mm wheelgun instead of a Shield or Glock 43, crimp jump crimp jump crimp jump. I took a chance on it.
The steel frame of the 9mm LCR soaks up a ton of the recoil for me. I brought 200 rounds of ammo with me when I tested it out. 4 different kinds varying from 115gr fmj to 147 fmj to 115 jhp to 124 short barrel premium SD ammo. Even with the baby boot grip on it, I could have shot 200 more when I was done.
She does kick, but I dont think any worse than an aluminum J frame. But at 7-10 yards I'm keeping the bullets right where I want them. I was getting great performance out of it. 147 gr ball seems to be a soft shooting target load, but cheap jhp Monarch 115 gr from Academy was very accurate. My last two shots, I tried to "pierce the ears" of the target I was shooting at. They weren't pretty, but he could have worn some chunky danglers off what was left of of them
Like I said, almost no one likes the idea of the 9mm LCR. But few people that try them dislike them. I swear by mine. Truth be told, I'm bundled 19 ways to sunday today due to the 13 degree weather. I would much rather have the LCR on me than Rosa's shapely yet rotund aluminum caboose dragging on my shoulder...but don't tell her that.
Oh and I had a 26 a few years ago. The doomsday prepper part of my brain said, "Get the 26. You'll carry more ammo than your pocket .380 and you can use any Glock 9mm magazine!"
The 26 shot OK, but I never warmed up to such a chunky yet stubby gun for primary carry. I went with the slightly larger FNS Compact in .40. Still one of my favorites.
However, I decided several months ago that I kinda wanted a ubiquitous poly 9mm of affordable, durable, and common design. Basically, a Glock 19. Man, what a difference that little bit of grip and barrel makes. I shoot it almost as well as Rosa, but it comes in close to 10 ozs lighter. Still, no personality and no personal attachment to it on my part. It's what I carry when I am being clinical. Go lightweight, go higher capacity, go durable, get it done. That's a Glock for you. Notice, it's gender neutral
Rosa makes my heart flutter.
