OK gang,
Please do not vote unless you are seriously interested in participating, keep in mind the poll results are public.

From the other thread which is now locked, we seem to have a preference for the swayback and barlow.

If we choose a swayback, we may be limited to one company (Case), but we are working on that, but have not had luck yet.

If we choose a barlow, the door is much more wide open.

(edited to add, I switched my initial vote to Barlow since I felt we would have more options.)

I will close this on March 4th (evening) and the pattern with the most votes will be it.

As I indicated earlier, I vote for the Barlow pattern. I would like to see a two blade, preferably CM154 or ATS-34, with a saw cut or jigged bone scale.

I vote Barlow and I think Boker makes a good one. It should have carbon steel blades and sawcut green or brown bone handles.

I voted for a sway back. I wouldn't have any interest in a barlow.

I both like the barlow and the fact it will be easier to have done adds to the reason I voted for it.

I voted for the swayback because I don't have one. I've been EDCing a GEC wharncliffe Barlow that I'm very happy with.

I voted Barlow…like the pattern, and it would be much easier to get produced.

If it comes down to a Swayback from Case, they are not entirely small run friendly, but we have certain “ins” there.:D

If Case, then CV should not be a problem, if not, those of you who prefer Carbon may have to settle for D2….I’m pushing for D2 because it really should not alienate any of those potentially interested in this project, either manufacturer or buyer.

Jigged bone makes the most sense, it is readily available and all manufacturers work with it. Domestic production makes the most sense, due to the high costs of duties and shipping, especially these days.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

I said "swayback", but I'm in for either. A Case swayback in carbon and yellow delrin- think about it, gents! (edit) Bone's fine too, I just really want a yellow CV swayback. I think Case will make 'em eventually anyway.

I voted for a barlow but will participate either way. I'd like to see carbon or D2 blades and jigged bone.

I am in for a Barlow....
Stainless or D2 blade with Jigged Micarta handles.

I voted Barlow, but will be in either way...

Glenn

I hope folks realize how fortunate we are to have Steven helping out this year. His contacts in the industry as well as his taste and knowledge will come into play and I know we will end up with a better knife due to his efforts.

I would make a suggestion on this poll however. I think that there is a possibility that some who vote will not actually buy the forum knife, I think before the final poll is taken there should be a requirement to post a $25.00 (or higher) deposit. This would, of course, be applied to the total price of the knife. This would insure only those who are actually willing to buy will decide what pattern the forum knife will be.

So you are suggesting a firm commitment be given prior to the pattern being decided? I have no interest in a barlow. I would however take at least one sway back. Should I not be voting because I wouldn't take a barlow?

I voted on a swayback (preferably one-bladed; it's much classier that way), but wouldn't mind a barlow either. I want to one-up Moonwilson on the yellow delrin idea and say smooth yellow (or even better, white) bone.

If it goes the barlow path, the acrylic handle materials available to GEC (see Bexley and Taccia fountain pens for ideas) are mind boggling.

Guys,
Judging by the last three years, I do not think we are going to have major problems. The poll is public (click on the tally to see who voted) and I would like to think if a person voted and the pattern they voted on was chosen that in most cases they will follow through if they can swing it.

It is a "club" knife and that rather than the pattern and materials that is what excites me. At the same time, there will rightfully be those who just do not like the pattern or the steel or the materials and that is cool.

I really do not want to deal with deposits. Once we get the knife priced out and we will be well below $100 with these two patterns we will post a "sign up and send me your money" thread. I am pretty sure that last year and the year before went just like the first year and that was pretty darn good for a group who for the most part have not met eachother.

As a backup once all the cash is collected. I will write a check to a close friend for them to hold and continue on - just in case I get hit by a truck while I am holding everyone's money. ;). Most companies will ask for a sizable deposit before they consider the request an order is placed and want the rest once the knives are shipped or done.
