EDIT: Total bill is 828 bucks. You can read more if you like. I posted more replies as I got more...bills.

My ZT 0350 was down for over 2 months because the torsion bar broke. I finally got replacements after a third attempt. ZT customer service sent out parts 3 times. 2 times they were stolen or lost. Anyway, I was too excited to get my parts that I forgot to tape up the blade. The torsion bar that came was fresh and wasn't worn in yet, so it took considerable effort to get it in...when it slipped and cut my right arm below the wrist. It was about 1/4 - 1/2 inch deep and about 1.25 inches long. Fortunately I didn't sever an artery. Quick thinking due to my training (exercise science and injury management), I wrapped the cut tightly in a white teeshirt. I didn't lose much blood at all. Went to the ER, got stitched, and got prescribed an antibiotic and narcotic, the latter of which I didn't buy. I have no insurance being freshly out of college...stitches cost me 150 bucks. Antibiotics cost me 51something. 200+ bucks for a damn torsion bar and it's still not in. Of course my fam thinks I should never use another knife. This was my night. How was everyone else's?

Well this just sux. I managed to get the torsion bar in, and I think they sent me the wrong one. They sent me 0300 series bars, I believe. When I finally got the damn thing in the knife, the bar hangs over the machined groove from the non-locking stainless steel liner. No wonder it was so damn hard to get in.

Been there. Lessons learned when tinkering with knives: Always tape up edge of blade,Use plenty of light, keep magnifying glass on hand, work on a white or light colored pad to keep track of parts, small plates or saucers are great for keeping track of tiny parts and take note on which order everything came apart. Soory about the cut,I know it sucks.

Sympathies buddy. So what are you going to do about the torsion bar now? Maybe you should send the whole knife back to them and let them put the correct one in.

Do it enough, and you'll learn about super glue and tape :)

Glad you werent hurt bad.

Did they ask you, "Would you ever cut yourself?" My answers to those are always fun. My favorite was when I cut my finger open on the fence at work. I've never really gotten myself good with a knife though. I have however had less than pleasant experiences with: drills, hatchets, axes, saws of several varieties, sharp pieces of wire, and cell phone shards. :D

Thanks for the concern, people. I'm just glad I didn't sever a vital artery. I wonder how I'll feel once the anesthesia wears off.

EDIT: I made up a story about how I cut myself. Said I was cleaning my knife when my cat jumped on me. No questions asked after I said that.
EDIT 2:...GWashington - cellphone shards? What do you do for a living? Are you a bombsquad tech or something?

A knife never really gives itself to you until it tastes your blood. Then, it will be yours forever.

Hi harkamus -

Wow! Just goes to show, even an experienced person can have a moment of inattention.

I am glad that you did not more seriously injure yourself.

best regards -

Thanks for the sentiment.

Yea, I have pretty extensive training, but have never had to put it into much practice. I am first aid/cpr certified as a first responder. I'm also trained with more serious injuries related to sports.

However, this was the first time I ever had such a deep laceration. I've never had anything where I required stitches, so when I first looked at my cut, I started sweating a bit in the face...not enough to pass out or anything. It was a new experience for me. It was just the adrenaline coursing (fight/flight response). First thing I did was wash the cut under water. Stung like a mutha. Then I quickly tied it up with a white teeshirt as tightly as possible. I had very minimal blood loss. After those few minutes passed, I was calm and not sweating anymore. Then I told my bro to take me to the ER.

The ER people were a trip. Apparently I made their night since nothing "exciting" happened til I walked in. It was almost annoying because all the residents wanted to see my laceration. I just wanted to get treated and get out of there.

wow you got a deal my friend, out here in SF California, my bro who does not have insurance either cut himself while doing construction in the garage and we rushed him to the ER.. bill comes a few weeks later $4000 lol

obviously he did not even pay it since he disputed it through some program/unemployment thing.

WTH. 4000 greens? I guess The Guvornator needs all the money he can get.

No, I work matinence, while attending school. But I hate cell phones and in a habit of destroying them, so much so that after seven or eight in the past year, I just stopped buying them all together. But I gave myself a nasty cut on the head that requied a couple of wound closure strips, when I chucked a cell phone against a concrete wall and pieces bounced back at me. Here's a picture of one of my phones:

Mind you this is a different phone from the one that met with the concrete wall; I couldn't find much of that one afterwards except for the battery and a chunck of the outside plastic. Made me feel better though. :D

And about hospital bills, they charged me around $160 for a roll of gauze and an iodine soaking after insuance when I chopped off flesh on my thumb, so $4000 for a stitch up doesn't surprise me one bit.

Who needs a dagger when you have exploding cell phones:D.

"Can you hear me now?" lol

So did you cut across/along your arm and top/bottom? Glad to hear you're ok.

I cut my wrist on the bottom of my wrist near the bony protrusion that is below the pinky finger. The cut was left to right (perpendicular to my wrist).
