Finally Getting To Use The A-1 for Food Prep !!

Mist, how is that A1 for holding an edge and sharpening?

What niche do you have it pegged for? I may have a need for something like this knife...a combo defensive yet back up wilderness knife. Whatta you think?

As far as edge holding goes it has chopped and whittle seasoned Dogwood and it has chopped, split, and whittled seasoned Black Walnut and under gone the bead blasting with no touch up to the edge yet and still slices and dices veggies pretty good...though it isn't as sharp as it started out. I don't know about the sharpening it yet as I haven't done it.

The niche I have it pegged for currently is as a primary fixed blade because I have determined that so far it is definitely one I want handy if the S hits the F and I don't have to be too discrete at the time.

I think that sounds about right.

We think alike Mist.
Picked up a coated S-1 awhile back and it is laying around instead of being used.
Need to get rid of the coating.

also wish I went for the A-1 instead but the s-1 came with a custom leather sheath with the original for regular sticker price.

Really starting to move away from the 3.5 to 5 in fixed blades now that I have 10 acres in cougar and bear country and having to blaze trails.

Great post as always

I don't understand how you went from celery and onion cereal with a side of pancakes to an unspecified casserole.

The knife looks great.

You most certainly are! This should be fun ;)

Fine...lol, give me a few days. I was just looking at it the other day picturing food prep tasks with it :)

Take it to a local metal shop and have them bead blast it. I think John had the pressure down to around 60psi and was just careful about how much he hit the Kraton and it turned out great. I love it!

H_ll in your area I may actually go with the A-2 for the bigger blade but here the 6.5" blade is plenty for me.

Hahahaha that's hilarious. Well...the celery and onions were the only things that required cutting with a knife. I boiled the chicken whole and tore it apart with my hands and the same thing with the corn bread (those pancakes :) ) and the rest was spices and broth

That sounds pretty good.

I was thinking that they would coat the blade because it wasn't stainless, but I checked the specs and that knife supposedly uses VG-10, which is very stain resistant. It seems like it will make a very nice knife.

I love a bead blast finish. Looks great mist. That blade is definatly one I wanna get.

I agree with you. If it goes down, I have no doubts about Falknivens quality and ergos. I have an F1 on loan from rksoon that has been rode HARD this season and it is one of the best fixed blades I have ever used. Its cleaned tiny fish all the way up to a 25 lb catfish I caught last week. Ive prepped nearly a dozen fires with it, and countless meals for the grill. The steel always seems to keep a keen edge, and strops up with ease. I had my doubts about the thickness of the F1, but it hasnt hindered the knifes ability to carve or slice one bit that I have noticed.

Nope, only coated for reflectivity issues, but if they want to do a coated blade they could learn some lessons from ESEE and TOPS that's for sure.

As far as I know all of their knives have a high corrosion resistance.

Yep, definitely loving the new look.

Oh, this knife is definitely a tough knife that handles and cuts very well. I do intend to get an F1 soon.

I got an F1 a few months ago. When you look at it , it's a pretty plain knife , but it fits my hands great like all the FK's do , and the shorter blade makes an easy carry ,do-all bush knife. I know a lot of thought was put into this knife ( 7 yrs. I think !) and you wouldn't tell by looking at it , but in practical use , it's a winner. I got the kydex sheath so I don't have to worry about getting it wet. It practically dissapears on your belt. Not bulky at all. You will be happy when you get it. It makes a great companion to the A1, which I also have in satin ( and an S1 to boot )

I like the looks of the grind of the F1. The big draw to the Fallkniven A1, S1, and F1 are the simplicity. I love simplicity that functions well, and the A1 definitely functions VERY well.

I have to agree, looks MUCH better with the coating gone.

Oh, most definitely a vast improvement. I like it so much I sent pictures to Peter Hortberger and asked if he had ever considered it as an anti-reflective option.

Mist

Glad to see ya got that coating off.

These Fallknivens really get ya hooked don't they. I just keep liking my F1 more and more.

I'm seriously considering am S1 as an upgrade.

I'm getting tempted by these too...hows the handle mateial feel for light chopping? Absorb shock like res c or is is it a harder material?

Harder than the Kraton CS uses. Don't have any with ResC so I can't say on that one.

With my F1 choping isn't a consideration. Good grip and durable though.

I want an A1 REALLY bad, always have...problem is i already have a BK2, and at the price i cant really justify getting an A1, cause i dont think it'll offer that much more, in terms of performance/value, over the BK2.

Somebody give me reason!!
