It arrived in the mail this afternoon and I went to change the position of the pocket clip and 2 of the screws stripped! What are these things made out of, butter? So frustrated that I can't even carry my Para 2 now. Called Spyderco and they are sending replacement screws. Great customer service but man am I disappointed.

People have reported they even use red loctite on pocket clip screws these days, utterly ridiculous. Why make positional options a standout feature for the pocket clip if you weld the things stuck in one position. One day manufacturers will take a hint from CRK hopefully and use deep slotted hex screws instead of shallow fiddly torx.

That's crazy. What kind of torx drivers do you have? I sure hope they aren't loctiting the pocket clips now. I don't see why they would though. My brand new Para 3 was fine. At least there taking care of you!

They weren't loctited down at all. And it's definitely not a knockoff. Just soft, shitty screws.

I find a lot of downward pressure while turning the torx driver helps avoid stripped screws. However sometimes it is unavoidable, I wish the screws were a bit harder.

FYI. If a torx screw has the same depth as a hex screw the torx screw is less likely to strip.

Thats the issue tho, they are never as deep as the hex screws, have to use a lot of downward pressure to make sure you don't ride out of a tightly fit screw, not only that, but ensure your angle is perfectly central and 90 degrees to the handle. I Actually think metal for metal, the hex and torx are practically equal at the same depth, the angles of stoppage and amount of metal that has to be overcome is basically the same.

Hex or torx...choose the right size, insert and rotate perpendicularly.

Ounce of prevention and all that.

One word - Wiha.

^ This. Stripped/marred many Spyderco screws using cheaper torx drivers. Went with Wiha, haven't had a problem since. Spyderco does need to use better/harder steel on their screws, though.

I'd like to see a picture of the knife and a close-up of the screws and screw holes for verification of this.

Trust me, the screw heads stripped like they were made out of wax. Thanks but I don't need verification for what I see right in front of me. Besides, these screws are so small I can't even get my iphone to focus properly.

GJ, I don't think that anyone doubts your issues with regards to the screws. A technique that I have found usefull where any suspicion of Loctite is concerned, is to heat up the screws with a soldering pencil or gun for a few seconds and then immediately remove them. Such action loosens the Loctite and allows an easier removal. FWIW, you are in good company where rounded off Torx screws are concerned.

Thanks A.P.F.! It wasn't that I couldn't get the screws out. the problem was that the screws heads simply "warped" the first time I took them out. With only a few turns they turned into round holes. Very soft metal or whatever they're made of.

I suggest that you get a good quality torx driver before you use the replacement screws.

What brand of torx driver were you using? I highly recommend Wiha for everyone who doesn't have high quality torx drivers. I get the most use out of T6 and T8.
