Finally hit the water

This was a looooong winter and thats fine, but damn did I miss getting on the lake! I finally found a few hours today to do just that! The weather was beautiful, a lil windy, but still beautiful!

I decided to target LM Bass, I got a few but the bite was really slow. I never even felt the hit on the ones I did manage to catch, I just noticed the line moving. Hopefully in another couple of weeks the water temp will warm abit making the fish more active.

After 2 hours of Bass fishing and only 4 fish, I decided to spend the last hour and a half trolling for trout. No luck there though:(

Here are a few pics.

The gear and boat of the day

I stepped off on a lil island to relieve myself and found this standing dead White Pine. So I pushed it over to see if I could score a lil fatwood.

And sure enough the roots had a bunch:thumbup:

I wish I had a pic of a trout for yall, but here a couple of Bass.
All fish were released, as Bass season doesn't open till June. But when it comes to Bass I release them 99% of the time anyway.

Thanks for looking fellas.

Nice pictures, GS, thanks for sharing. Reminds me of when I used to like fishing. The only fishing I would enjoy now would be using primitive/survival techniques - to further the knowledge base - one track mind, I guess. :o

Good to see that you had a nice day on the water.

G'day Tony

Glad to see you got some time to get in some fishing (and a nice feed or two :D)

Kind regards
Mick

Nice fish :D
My favorite tactic for LMB this early in the year is a big single colorado blade spinnerbait on a stiff, sensitive rod.
Fish the spinnerbait just like a jig.
Hope it off the bottom till you just feel the blade thump once or twice and let it sink again.
It's odd, but it works.

I like your set up, no time wasted tying knots

Thanks all

Funny you should say that. I grabbed my Kistler LTA 7' MH and went to tie on a spinnerbait, (I was gonna slow roll a 3/4 oz along the bottom) and dug through my bag to realize I left my spinnerbait box in the car:grumpy:

I will try out that jig tecnique though, thanks:thumbup:

great pics Tony... that's a nice looking fish man... looks like a perfect day out on the water...:)

Nice fish! I'm hoping to get the boat out and head up to the dam at Yankton SD this weekend. Hopefully there will be some walleye biting.

Think you have enough fishing poles? I can barely manage one, never mind that batch you've got!

Tony what lake were you at up there? Looks like a great way to spend the day in the early season. Nice find on the fatwood too!

Good stuff, T. The fatwood was a good bonus.

I got to spend half the day teaching crash investigation and the other half in meetings that lasted waaaaayyyy toooooo long.

Nice fish, and a good find on the fatwood.

I just don't understand how when the season is in you can release fish that you can eat. I could never do that catch and release thing during season.

Nice fish, and a good find on the fatwood.

I only take enough fish to feed me, my wife, and daughter for the day in season. I do not like to freeze freshwater fish. They taste better when fresh imo. So if I am to keep fish, it is usually no more than 2. The rest go back for another day.

Ha, when things really get going I've been known to take 12 rods out with me.

Each rod has its specific purpose, and I spend more time fishing than rerigging:thumbup:

great fishin pics! i cannot wait to get my new 4w flyline and go to the Skagit for trout........

hey, is that a LUND Jonboat? very nice!

Nice Bass!!! I'm lucky if I catch any that large, but then again, bass aren't my main quarry.
Thanks for the fishing pics, I'm starting to get restless to start fishing again.

Make sure you post some pics, when you hook up bro!

That John boat is made by Alumicraft., I have a Lund as well, as a couple of Landau's as well. As long as they are extra wide, they are all good.

The Lund is a lil Heavy though, I usually don't fish that one when I'm alone...

@Stingray- You boys out in Cali have some HUGE Bass lakes. Some produce Bass in the 14lb- 18lb range rather steadily:eek:
