Hello B.F. I think I have finally came to a conclusion and found a winner (Yay). For the 18 months, or possibly longer. I have been looking for the perfect edc. I do not like having a rotation, I like to find a knife and carry it and that is the end of it. So I carried a Large Sebenza 21 with Micarta Inlays for about 6 months and loved it. Then I moved into the world of customs and quickly sold that 21. I tried out, everything from a Michael Raymond Estrella, custom 3.5 flipper Hinderers, Robertson El Patron, T.A.D. Dauntless', Mayo TNT, custom Lamberts, a Curtiss F3, Strider SJ75, and then a large Original Sebenza, and then a large Regular Sebenza, just to name a few. I carried the large Regular for about 2 months and in that time managed to take a mint condition knife and completely cover the entire TI showside with snailtrails, not deep gouges or anything like that but completly covered it with marks. So I thought and thought about what to try as I took the Large Original and Regular and sent them in for a spa treatment as it bothered me to be constantly marking up these knives and I'd rather get them back into mint condition and collect them.
So I continued to look and thought about a small Sebenza. Got a small 21 and hated it. So then I thought about a Strider PT? Strider is the only company that I don't really care for just based on looks and they offer so much custom stuff I have no idea where to start. So anyways, one day I saw a brand new PT with a Ranger green handle, and just the plain jane set-up, it also had the new style pivot and a clip. That was the problem with P.T.s, the C.C. line does not have a clip and that is the nicer line so I didn't know what to do as I have to have a clip. So I decided to give the P.T. a shot and couldn't be happier. It is just big enough where I can fit my entire hand on it if I choke up, it opens like a dream, is sharp as hell, and the blade is just long enough to perfrom daily tasks, and its only weighs 2.4 OZ which is almost unrecognizable in the pocket. I like it more and more everday that I carry it.
So what is the moral of the story It is great to collect high end knives and I mean I have 13 Sebenzas and however many Hinderers, amongst many other makers but it is the simple ones that are great for EDCing. I can throw it on the ground or slam it against the wall and not have to worry about it being scratched. My ring cannot scratch it and its perfect. I mean its literally the cheapest knife that I own twice over and yet it is one of my favorites by far. I know many of you are against having safe queens but not me. I want to look at and appreciate what each custom maker has to offer and keep that piece as mint as possible for as long as possible and even though I carried that large Regular for the longest out of all of them and I was still always pissed off when I looked at it and it has nothing but scratches covering 90% of the TI side of the knife.
I do not recommend going out and buying a piece of trash knife for an E.D.C.er but this P.T. is perfect. I even still have a brand new 25 that I considered EDCing but never did. Matter of fact I have only taken it out of the package once. Its funny how sometimes the simplest solution is exactly what we needed in the first place. The small P.T. is still a quality knife. It has zero movement in any direction when opened. Is way smoother than I thought it would be, is tough as nails, and is almost impossible to scratch up. So keep those customs coming but at some point you have to choose an edc and for me the P.T. was an answer to a question that I've been trying to answer for well over a year now. Thanks for your time and I hope this may help others that find themselves in similar situations caught between the world of customs and then picking out the perfect EDC. Thanks for listening and take care to all.

Good you found what your looking for the pt is too small for me though. Striders definitely seem to cry use
Me.

Interesting, tried them all like you, spent countless thousands. Never had a Strider, maybe time to give one a try.

High end knives aren't for real work, they're for collecting and showing off.

13 Sebenzas? Really?

Different worlds.

csg, im sure there are thousands out there who cary high ends for edc, only reason I dont is i dont have the cash yet

Glad you found a knife that works for you, but sweet Moses, I'd love to be able to consider a Strider cheap.

Sorry, but I had a Dickens of a time reading your post . I had hoped to decipher the title but ended up even more confused!
But enjoy whatever you're talking about.

That's nice...

Thing is.. Striders are less "refined" then CR's knives are.. like the sebby 21...

I own many striders.. and have owned many in the past.. to name a few 4 pt's/2 Sng's and1 SMF .... Concealed and lego versions and GG ... \

same goes for CR's knives... ive had everything from a sm. sebby to an umnumzaan.. and back again...

All of these knives are functional and can be put to good use... BUT it is also from my experience and alot of other peoples... (look around on the forums).. that at around the same prices depending which model.. between strider and chris reeves..... strider sends out quite a few lemons.. that are brand new, yet have problems.. such as lock-rock.. or blade play.. and need to be sent in right off the bat...

From my experience through handling all the knives I have.. I have noticed blade play on just about every strider.. now I am indeed anal about it.. and will call it even if its THE SLIGHTEST BIT... BUT.... I kid you not when I say Ive NEVER felt ANY blade NOT ANY.. on ANY model of Chris Reeves knives that I have and have handled... even my user sm sebby 21 that im currently edcing and have been for a while now is still locking up as solid as the day it came in the mail..

It comes down simply to the design factor... the design of the striders have problems.. (they tried to address this with the new pivot).. yet they are still seeming to have problems..

P.S. I have a Strider Pt CC atm.. that is in my rotation for edc and it has the brand new pivot.. yet still has some wiggle.. ive taken it down... polished the washers.. cleaned/lubbed it up .. but nothing seems to work.. play is still there..
now it dosn't mess with the functionality of the blade.. and its still 100% reliable.. it won't fail b/c there is slight wiggle when you look for it... BUT I KNOW that it is there.. and on a $300+ knife SHOULD IT BE?... thats a question that ive struggled with..

I dont think $475 on an SNG gg is really worth it to come in the mail from factory brand new... with wiggle.. its more or less a slap in the face from strider to you directly...

BUT at the end of the day.. I still own striders in my collection.. and Will most likely continue... i mean honestly.. I do like the "feel" of the "tankiness" of them.. when I have them on me.. I feel like I can get past anything with them =p.. HAHA... I guess this is why I will continue to own striders...

I guess what Im saying is that if you can get over the fact that you might have a tiny bit of wiggle ... then by all means get your strider.. (maybe it'll be solid!) ... you never know.. but alot of people are disheartened when they get they're first strider and notice that wiggle.. because when a person spends that type of money.. they expect something that we have come to know ... from other companies such as chris reeve :)

Just the way I feel...

Though striders are great knives and im not bashing them.. It just frustrates me because I do like strider knives alot to be honest... but its annoying as they cant get the wiggle out of them.....

I'd try a Strider, but I can't find one that fits me. The PT is too small, the SJ-75 is too wide and aesthetically unappealing, and the SnG is too big. :( Guess I'll just have to stick to my Small Sebenzas. :)

There's currently a thread in the CRK forum about lock-rock/blade-play in the new Sebenza 25 and other CRK models.
No manufacturer is perfect.

The PT is a tempting knife. A gentlemanly Strider sounds oxymoronic though. ;)

I have come to the same conclusion about my LionSteel SR1. My perfect EDC. I am retired and live in jeans and don't find it to be too large or heavy. I have also decided that, because it is beautiful yet built like a tank, any worry about staining or scratching it is over. It is simply too good to not use.

I also have the luxury of living in a state where I can use it to halve a sandwich in a restaurant half full of LEO's and not get a second look.

Knives cut and slice things. The PT performs neither of these tasks well. I love CRK but a Seb really doesnt excel in these areas either. I just picked up a CRKT Swindle. Didnt want to at first but had to see what all the fuss was about. 40 bucks later, I now own a slicing machine. We all pay for the name around here and there is nothing wrong with that. We dont need titanium handle slabs and steel you dont have to sharpen for months. We like and want those features.

I agree with the OP. The PT is the exception to my "I dislike choils" rule and it is a fantastic exception. I have a lego and recently picked up a CC in the new production run. The CC really is something special and is giving my CRKs, my Wilkins Ritter Grip (got to love that) and customs a good fight for pocket time. As soon as you go a bit bigger ... I'll take my Sebenza, an SJ75, a Wilkins 550 Grip or a Lum Chinese before one of my SNGs any day.
