Hello B.F. I think I have finally came to a conclusion and found a winner (Yay). For the 18 months, or possibly longer. I have been looking for the perfect edc. I do not like having a rotation, I like to find a knife and carry it and that is the end of it. So I carried a Large Sebenza 21 with Micarta Inlays for about 6 months and loved it. Then I moved into the world of customs and quickly sold that 21. I tried out, everything from a Michael Raymond Estrella, custom 3.5 flipper Hinderers, Robertson El Patron, T.A.D. Dauntless', Mayo TNT, custom Lamberts, a Curtiss F3, Strider SJ75, and then a large Original Sebenza, and then a large Regular Sebenza, just to name a few. I carried the large Regular for about 2 months and in that time managed to take a mint condition knife and completely cover the entire TI showside with snailtrails, not deep gouges or anything like that but completly covered it with marks. So I thought and thought about what to try as I took the Large Original and Regular and sent them in for a spa treatment as it bothered me to be constantly marking up these knives and I'd rather get them back into mint condition and collect them.
So I continued to look and thought about a small Sebenza. Got a small 21 and hated it. So then I thought about a Strider PT? Strider is the only company that I don't really care for just based on looks and they offer so much custom stuff I have no idea where to start. So anyways, one day I saw a brand new PT with a Ranger green handle, and just the plain jane set-up, it also had the new style pivot and a clip. That was the problem with P.T.s, the C.C. line does not have a clip and that is the nicer line so I didn't know what to do as I have to have a clip. So I decided to give the P.T. a shot and couldn't be happier. It is just big enough where I can fit my entire hand on it if I choke up, it opens like a dream, is sharp as hell, and the blade is just long enough to perfrom daily tasks, and its only weighs 2.4 OZ which is almost unrecognizable in the pocket. I like it more and more everday that I carry it.
So what is the moral of the story It is great to collect high end knives and I mean I have 13 Sebenzas and however many Hinderers, amongst many other makers but it is the simple ones that are great for EDCing. I can throw it on the ground or slam it against the wall and not have to worry about it being scratched. My ring cannot scratch it and its perfect. I mean its literally the cheapest knife that I own twice over and yet it is one of my favorites by far. I know many of you are against having safe queens but not me. I want to look at and appreciate what each custom maker has to offer and keep that piece as mint as possible for as long as possible and even though I carried that large Regular for the longest out of all of them and I was still always pissed off when I looked at it and it has nothing but scratches covering 90% of the TI side of the knife.
I do not recommend going out and buying a piece of trash knife for an E.D.C.er but this P.T. is perfect. I even still have a brand new 25 that I considered EDCing but never did. Matter of fact I have only taken it out of the package once. Its funny how sometimes the simplest solution is exactly what we needed in the first place. The small P.T. is still a quality knife. It has zero movement in any direction when opened. Is way smoother than I thought it would be, is tough as nails, and is almost impossible to scratch up. So keep those customs coming but at some point you have to choose an edc and for me the P.T. was an answer to a question that I've been trying to answer for well over a year now. Thanks for your time and I hope this may help others that find themselves in similar situations caught between the world of customs and then picking out the perfect EDC. Thanks for listening and take care to all.
