Finally, Ive carried $2k knives and the $300.00 knife made for the best EDC ever.

Knives cut and slice things. The PT performs neither of these tasks well. I love CRK but a Seb really doesnt excel in these areas either. I just picked up a CRKT Swindle. Didnt want to at first but had to see what all the fuss was about. 40 bucks later, I now own a slicing machine. We all pay for the name around here and there is nothing wrong with that. We dont need titanium handle slabs and steel you dont have to sharpen for months. We like and want those features.

a sebenza doesn't cut and slice well? what?

You would need to reprofile the edge to make it a decent slicer. I guess the Sebenza is also supposed to be a semi "hard use" folder so its not a bad thing that it is not a slicer. The large Seb would make a better slicer in my opinion. The small and the large both have the same exact blade thickness. Add more belly and a longer blade and you have a better slicer.

Have you ever used one?

Yes, I own 3 Sebs. One large and two small. My classic small is my fishing knife. I use the hell out of it. It is a great knife, just not a good slicer. Have YOU used one?

My SMF GG is great but I don't carry it often due to the 3" blade length limit in Los Angeles. Light and robust.

The PT has one problem in that I prefer to stay at exactly 3" for the blade. PT's 2.75" is too short! Had the same issue with William Henry with no 3" but the E10 at 3.25" and the E6 at 2.75".

His point was that a Sebenza doesn't cut or slice a whole lot differently that a knife that costs 10% as much. In other words, it doesn't excel at those tasks over a far less expensive knife. It's a collector piece that also cuts things.

I have no problem with that description of the Sebenza. Pride of ownership has a lot to do with why I buy knives. As far as slicing ability is concerned, my Small Sebenza opens envelopes and removes shrink wrap from flats of bottled water effortlessly which, because I work in an office, is about all I really need it to do. And If I really need something sharper to accomplish those tasks, I can always pull out one of my William Henrys. ;)

Everyone compares the Strider and CRK folders, and it is truly like apples an oranges. I prefer the CRK folders, but I really like my SNG CC. Almost having sold off or traded most of my one handed openers, in favor of custom bushcraft fixed blades and slipjoints, I still prefer to have a larger one hand opener on me. I am down to two CRK folders, a classic large micarta Sebenza, and a 21 large micarta Insingo. I have carried both off and on, but I don't care about messing up my SNG CC. The current one is a 3/4 grind, and I have been thinking about getting it turned into a super thin flat ground slicer. I have a flat ground SNG CC on the way the end of the month, and will make my decision then.

I had the original PT's, and the small Sebenzas (regulars, classics, micartas, woods etc), wish I would have just kept them all. However, I never really used the smaller knives, I've always preferred to pair a slipjoint with a one hand opener.

I would like to see a lanyard hole like the PT CC, on the SNG CC, while keeping the clip. It is very secure in the back pocket. I had a stock SMF, and an Umnumzaan, but they were too bulky for me. Hopefully the SMF CC will be different.

Last but not least, it sounds like you have a little wiggle room $ wise ;). Have you tried a Lochsa?

I just can't understand safe queens. Nothing warms a custom knife makers heart as much as seeing their products be put to good use. I don't think anyone would argue with that.

I own a small Sebenza, a small Sebenza CF Insingo, a Strider SNG, and a Strider SJ75. All 4 are flawless. I can't comment on whether or not it's true that Strider puts out some lemons, all I know is both of mine are perfect.

Um, Okay lol.. that caught me off guard... a sebenza dosn't slice well?...maybe if you use the factory edge but I reprofile all of my edges when I recieve my knives and let me tell you.. this sebenza slices like a beast... oh course by nature something like an FFG delica will slice better due to geometry of the blade..... but I much rather carry my sebenza then my delica....

that was tough to read....I copied and pasted it into word and made my own paragraphs, lol :-)

There's currently a thread in the CRK forum about lock-rock/blade-play in the new Sebenza 25 and other CRK models.
No manufacturer is perfect.

The PT is a tempting knife. A gentlemanly Strider sounds oxymoronic though. ;)

Never said CR's is perfect... BUT I said he's a hell of a lot more "on the money" then strider has ever been... Now if your a strider fan boy thats fine and I dont want to take anything away from you... but at the same time be realistic in the fact that striders at the end of the day aren't as "fine-tuned" as CR's ...

Sure its nice to have a tank in your pocket.. that why I carry mine.. because we all know striders dont slice the best considering it has such a thick blade... but we make exceptions because they are "tanks"..

As for the sebenza.. its a nice gentlemans folder that can still get just about every realistic task done that you can ask from a knife...

Honestly we aren't supposed to be prying things with a knife.. I dont care how much the price of it... a knife was designed for a specific reason... and we shouldn't expect any more from 1...

If you need a prybar .. BUYONE... not a strider...

I love the PT. It is my favorite small folder.

I've been waiting on a couple other smaller folders and decided to buy a PT to calm my cravings for a while. Boy was I surprised! I love this knife. (I bought the regular version with a pocket clip)

Like the OP, I have had Sebenzas, only two, not thirteen, and really didn't care that much for them.

I have lots of other smaller knives, that I like better than Sebs that cost a lot less.
,
Among my favorites are the AlMar mini SERE, Fantoni HB 02-great little knife, CRK Mnandi, Alias 2 and a Brous SS flipper.

I have a Fantoni Hide folder coming, we will see how that design works out. Fantoni is making some excellent knives right now, I highly recommend them.

As much as I like these little folders, the PT is proving to be my first choice for carry. The Strider design is just so unique and works so well.
I have an Sng which I like very much, but it is mostly used for outdoors activities. The PT is better for EDC for me.

For a knife of its size, the Sebenza has a pretty thick blade. Thinner blade stock will always outperform thicker in the slicing department. Period. That was my point. The Sebenza is more than just a slicer and is meant to be a semi "hard use" folder. Sebenza means "work" not "slice".
