Well I have been looking for the perfect edc now going on 10 years. As most of you all have the same problem I am sorry, You still have the drawer full of knives but I am done now.

About 1 month ago I was at a gun show here in Ma. and came accross a table just chuck full of blades. So I played for about an hour with Cold steel, CRKT, Benchmade, Spydies, and Kershaw. Well tucked in the corner was this http://www.buckknives.com/catalog/detail/472/233

I walked out with it for 50$. Well after using it for a month it really looks worn in nice and just is perfect for what I need it for. I tested it by cutting up 3 boxes that were 2 ft bu 2 ft into 4 inch squares, I cut about 20 feet of rope in 2 inch chunks, cut numerous feet of hose, belts and all kinds of crap around the shop. I them used it to chip concrete off my truck.(I drive a mixer) and just to round out the test my wife came back from the butcher and I cut up in pieces 12 chickens, and about 50 lbs of beef. Funny thing is I never resharpened it. Well I just got through using the DMT clamping system on it and It is back to shaving sharp.

I just had to brag that My search is over and I am extreamly happy and sad about it. But maybee I need the Buck strider 880:rolleyes:

Just recieved an OD 889 myself. Have you tested the liner lock with a spine whack? Mine unfortunately folds up under light to medium force whacks, depending on how hard I snap it open.:thumbdn: Other than that, it's a very solidly built, sharp knife.

One nice thing about this place is that nobody will hold you to that.... won't even say "I told you so" when you get your next last-ever blade :D It's nice to find a knife that really grabs you. It's just that there are so many out there!

Nice looking knife! Congrats

Wait until you discover higher end knives, customs, fall in love with another brand. Great knife congrats!! There are so many wonderful, wonderful knives out there!!

I really liked the 880 that I had I think the ATS-34 is well worth it, it had no play and was centered It was my fav edc until my strider, and then my Gunhammer. You say your search is over but sometime down the road you'll be back, they always come back bwuhahahahah(j/k). But yea mine was great to me.

Congrats!

Was that the show in Marlboro? I went there, saw tons of cool knives, but none for me. The Dozier-made Crossada in A2 was phenominal.

Yup the Marlboro show it was. It was kinda dissapointing in finding any gun deals but I did also get a bark river micro with the blaze orange handle for 50 bucks. You live in the area? I am on the RI CONN MA border. in fact the tri state marker is kinda in my backyard.

As for the spine whack well I had no issues with it, it passed really well.

Only drawback I have found is the little cutback on the back part of the cutting edge. It was snagging the cardboard at times. What I have to find now is a bladesmith. I was thinking of having this area chisle ground to use for cutting paracord and fishing line. Anyone have any recomendations for it??

CONGRATS on the great knife! I thought the Marlboro show was March 26th?????

I've gotta tell ya; I personally love the design, but have had the lock fail. so watch them fingers. If you like it for what you use it for it's great.

I live in southern NH, so Marlboro is about as far South as I'll venture for just throwing money away.

Did you get your Mikro from a guy named Rene? He's a knifemaker with a lot of talent and lives in CT. He's also an authorized BRKT dealer.

I saw this htread title and hoped that the post involved a SNG. You're clearly on the right track...almost there.

yeah talon the SNG is where that knife led me, you hold it you look at it and wonder....if I like this this much. Well how much would I like an SNG that its based off of? Then your in trouble.

My poor long suffering wife has heard that same story at least once or twice a year for the last 5 years at least...Maybe one day it will be true , but I'm starting to doubt it myself:)

I don't trust Buck's liner locks. I tried a *LIGHT* spine whack on the four I have and they all failed miserably, I think I'll stick with Spyderco and BM. The only Buck folders I use a lot are the 112 and 110.

Glad I'm not the only one. I keep finding THE ONE knife that will retire all the others... then I find another one. :D :D :D :D

Ive just ordered one, too!
Ive been admiring the Strider-type design for a while, so have taken the plunge & can see this one becoming MY EDC too. May well rotate it with my Gerber Applegate-Fairbairn, My Gerber Kiowa, good old SAK Explorer & a rather cheap n nasty feeling Kershaw blade, with a chisel grind & a black plastic thumbstud, the reason I carry that is the blade is F*** OFF sharp (the technical term!) & is the fastest-opening (non-automatic!) knife Ive EVER seen! Cant remember the model number, though. It just feels abit "tinny" & IMHO the pocket clip seems to be upside-down, at least compared to my other EDC folders

(Just checked! Its a "Linerlock Medium Spearpoint") Try one for size, it feels cheap but, wow, does it open fast!

I own the 889 and the 882 with G-10 and the ATS-34 heat treated by Bos. Mine original 889 also failed the spine whacks, but Buck was extremely curtious and straight up replaced it with a new one for me, even though my original was heavily used. Both are solid knives for the money, especially the 889 which can be had for under $50 online.

Regarding the 889 failing the spine whack test, I don't think it has anything to do with the design. I'm thinking possibly QC might be incosistent or something.

I keep hearing about this knife failing with spine whacks, and it makes me try it on mine again and again. I've whacked it so hard and repeatedly that I was more afraid the pivot joint would break than the lock fail. It's never come anywhere close to failing.

Is it possible that the 880 is the one that fails? I've heard, but don't know for sure that the liner is thinner on the 880. The 889 has .05 inch liners and feels stiffer than the titanium frame lock on my BM Mini Skirmish.
