Ok I figures that it was about time to do one of these. So here we go, feel free to post comments, criticisms, tips, make fun of me or tell me to quit and take up knitting. ;)

So we start with 5160 as you can see. My small forge can't take 2" wide so I cut it down to a 1" strip.

The trusty 2 brick forge. Of course I will want a bigger one someday but for now it does the job, just slowly.

After getting the blade to about where I want it work starts on the the tang.

That's about as far as I'll go with the forge. Plus by small gas bottle is starting to freeze so it's much too slow.

Looking good Patrice! I made one of those type of forges once, try setting your gas bottle in a pot of warm water.

With a 36 grit belt on the KMG, we refine the profile and tang.

Now a 60 grit belt with the flat platen and we get the flats right. Well not exactly right but as good as I can make them.

Time to figure where the guard will be and mark it with the sharpie.

After doing a little of thework on the grinder we finish the shoulder with the filing guide, bastard file and then smoother file with a safe edge.

Ok we flip the guide over and set the plunge and start the grind with a 60 grit belt.

That's as far as I'll take it. Now heat treat with the super high tech quench tank. ;) 130F vegetable oil.

Wanted to try the hamon thing for the first time so I got some furnace cement. The stuff is too thick so a little water and we get something we can work with.

No idea what I am doing here so I try something that I think might look good.

Looks good so far, Patrice.

With a clay coated blade, you typically would want the clay to come back past and across the ricasso. I'm not sure how the 5160 will take a hamon though, it may give a bit of a funky hardening line, really hard to say.

Blade is quenched! The cement popped off in the tank. This is what it looks like.

A little cleaning before the tempering.

Again the Super High Tech tempering oven. A proper kiln is at the top of my to buy list. :(

More to come but this time in a few days...

Thanks for looking.

A nice thin wash of Satanite will prevent scale.... just something to think about if you can't or don't use ATP641. ;)

Looks great!

Well done my friend keep up the good work. That has to be the nicest 2 brick forge i have ever seen.
