Finally......Ohio Gun season starts

After what has seemed like forever we finally get to hit the woods with guns. Been bowhunting since October and have seen lots of deer in gun range but not bow range. In a few hours I will he heading out and this time they will be in range. Good luck to all my Ohio brothers who are hitting the woods in the morning. Stay safe.

Hopefully will have a good report from the woods tomorrow.

5 hours til walk into the woods time. Wish I could sleep. Actually thinking about just heading out now. I do some of my best sleeping in a tree stand anyway.LOL

Enjoy..Buck season has been in for a week in WV...but rut is just starting to hit where I am..tear it up man, hope you bag a monster.
 
Some of my best naps have been hunting. Somehow being in the woods lets you sleep better.
 
Deer population seems to be down where I hunt. I think it is a combination of the number of antlerless allowed to be taken, the orange army, and increase of coyote population. I shot my buck during archery season and after this week will try to take out a few yotes over the winter.
 
I went out this morning and saw nothing but squirrels. Tomorrows another day.
 
That was me Saturday. I got skunked. First time in forever I did not see deer at my favorite stand.

Same for me.

Gotta' admit..through the years, there's been nothing to make my imagination run wild thinking the "big one" was coming my way..than a squirrel when they hit a patch of leaves just right. :rolleyes: (Oak leaves are the carpet most everywhere I hunt)....I've wanted to plug one or 2, just because of the let down after having to contort around to get a view of where they were..only to see em' look at me like..."sucker.."

I spent the day in a ground blind...NO deer, but lots of turkey..........well, there's tues..........carl
 
Our 2nd season starts in So. Illinois on Thurs thru Sunday.
Weather has been all over the board here....wind & rain 1st season.
Now 2nd season looks like snow/freezing rain--Midwest Special with all the changes.
My oldest son is really itchin for a shot.
Anyhoo...Good Luck to all deer hunters!
 
I wouldn't have the patience to sit and wait to see a deer show up all day. If I am out there for 5 hours and still don't see one I am not so sure I would ever want to try again another day. You hunters sure are tough characters!
 
Anyone do Still hunting? rather than from a stand? I've been coming across good sized buck left and right - when after squirrels and rabbits.
 
I was upset that I hadn't bought any tags yet yesterday morning. I was driving to work and passed a few packs of deer just hanging out by the road. It was enough to make me angry for the remainder of the day. I'm going to have to go out and see what I can find in the woods tonight, I'm hoping that I'll get a nice sized buck before the week is out.

I was thinking this exact same thing yesterday morning! It is so warm, it does not seem like it should be shotgun season at all. :(
