Finally picked up a Blur

Speaking of sharpening recurve blades, does anyone know of a cheap folder with a recurve I could practice sharpening on? If it's decent quality that I could actually use even better, but I'd like to not pay more than $30 for a practice knife.

You can find the Blur for around $30 on the forums and Kershaw will replace the blade for $10 if you mess it up to terribly. That's another thing I love about it. Awesome warranty and easily serviced.

That actually does sound like a good idea. I forgot about their blade replacement service. I'll keep an eye out for one for sure, thank you.

I got a Blur in 14c28n from my good friend Joe and I love it. I used to suck really bad at sharpening, and now I just kinda suck. I thought the recurve would be tough but it's a gentle one on the Blur. I can make the recurve part decently sharp then the rest is like a razor!

Unless I'm doing something wrong, you won't have to make any adjustments if you use a sharpmaker. It's the exact same motion.

I actually find the Sharpmaker is no good when using the stone in the jigs. The angles on knives aren't 30 or 40 degrees inclusive at the edge on enough knives. Also the Sharpmaker takes WAY too long to grind a blade to those degree settings. Therefore in the jigs the stones don't match the angle of hardly any knives.

Now I take the stones out of the Sharpmaker and freehand the edges. That works great for keeping an edge sharp.

What's with guys de-assisting the Kershaws?? Haven't thought much of it, have a Blur tanto on the way and can't wait to play with it. But why take away the assist?
