Finding Used RATs

I understand I might piss off some people with this thread but that's not my intention so... I'm curious about the offensive idea of people selling their RAT knives. I've been watching in the exchange forum and it seems like RATs just about never come up and when they do they are gone very quickly. I take this as agreat testimony as to the quality and craftmanship of these knives. But the reality is that a lot of us who can't drop $100+ on a knife (for example I'm a grad student and diapers take priority over my wants). Obviously these knives will last for a long time and I'm not trying to diminish the value of these knives by any means but there must be people who are selling used models; right? Or am I just off base here? I would love to be able to be a RAT owner sooner than later but its really not feasible for me at retail prices. Is there somewhere I should be looking for used RATs or do I just need to wait it out and put it off for a couple years till I can justify a new-knife purchase?

they pop up from time to time. but they would probably sell for around their full value. and the RC knives arent $100 plus. i only think the RC-5 is that much money. the RC-3 RC-4 and HEST are around $80. or you could get an izula which is around $50.

The Rat Izula can be had new for under 50 bucks if you look around. In my opinion this is quite inexpensive for a quality knife today.

Good Luck

Bill

Remember too that RC is a fairly new name, and are probably less 'mass market' knives and more 'aficianados' knives-meaning the people who buy them know what they're getting (and what they wanted) when they made their purchase.

I haven't seen many used RATs up for sale honestly, you just don't see a lot of them.

However, some of these guys must find better deals than I do, after shipping you're looking at $95-100 for a 3 or 4 and a little more for a 5 or 6. I've not seen many RATs in the $80 arena unless you count $89.99 plus shipping as $80.

Keep your eyes peeled, you might stumple across one. Other than that pick which one you like and pinch your pennies until you get there. The Izula is a great blade, I love mine, but if you have your heart on an RC-3 or something, don't "settle". You'll just always wish you had the 3.

I few pop up here and there, and no one I see REALLY has an issue with them being sold. The only one's people defend are the forum knives, but that's an entirely different story, and it was a very limited run. In fact I think most of us would encourage people dumping off rats at drastically reduced prices.

Realistically, even used I doubt you'd see an RC3 go for under $75. Since they can be had new for around 90/95, I'd just suggest looking around and unloading other things you may have.

I was in the same predicament as you, really wanting a RAT but not wanting to spend the money. I kept cruising the 'bay and eventually snagged a pretty good deal on an izula (the rat I wanted in the first place). They didn't come up alot, and were usually buy it now, but once in a while an auction does show up, just keep watching and you might score a nice deal.

If you really like RAT you're gonna end up with an izula eventually, so why not buy it now as it's the least expensive of the line.

Maybe it is just me, but I feel that RAT's prices are really reasonable considering the warrenty and the product. I would put me and my wife's income at lower than middle, and I thought the knives were a great value for people like us. I guess that is why I never really looked at the second hand market for them.

Try keeping an eye on the trading forum.
Made you could make a deal happen, with or without cash.

Put your heart into a comp. and win one. Im sure if you do your best you will get just returns for your effort.
Ive won 1 RC-6 1 Izula I have also won a woodland opt survival kit and purchased the ratpack RC-3 as well as a used and beat up RC-3 for forty bucks from a freind; I then turned around and gave it to another friend in need of a good blade.
If there is a strong enough will in you you'll get what you want.

Yep, what Crowdog said. Although, to you Crowdog, and for no good reason:

And I really hope people don't think that I don't agree with the price of RAT knives - quite the contrary: I think they are some of the best quality knives especially for the price and the warranty is the icing on the cake. A $500,000 house might be a phenominal deal but that doesn't put it in everybody's price range...

Once I'm done with school it won't be as big of a deal but for now it is a huge deal. I figure I will just pinch and wait to snag an izula and either pinch for a while more for an RC-4 or wait till I'm done with school.

Thanks for the responses! I'll keep checking the exchange :)

or you could get a RP# and try and win an izula monthly!

2 pages of RC knives on Ebay. Did not look at the prices to see if they compare to dealers. Look around long enough and you may find a good deal.

Used RAT's faithfully reside with thier owners :D.

I figure that in the future all things will rise in price even knives. If I found a RAT in the $80 price range I'd swoop it up in a heartbeat, but those are hard to run across.

I think that the reason you dont see many used RATs is because the more you use them, the more you love them. The more beat up they start to look, the better looking they become!! At least that is how I feel.:)

Being that you are currently in school, take advantage of the home games. Collect bottles and cans
I know some around my school who have made 500$ in one nights work.
I saved bottles and cans tell i was able to buy my brkt mininorthstar, I did the same for my moss500. If you want one make it happen Otherwise go to walmart and pick up a sak .(not hating just stating.)
