Finished the sword

Artcreek - Thanks, but I have a good job. Been there for the past 20+ years.

Decker, I like Argentum because it has some properties that sterling doesn't. It is much more tarnish resistant, for one. It also can be hardened to a higher degree than sterling.
Working with Argentum is identical to sterling, basically.
BTW, How'd the little lady like the pendant? ( I still have a Fordham handpiece in a box to send to you, too. At this rate, I'll probably just bring it and a goody box of other things with me to the Blacksmith Days)

I finally got the scabard done. It is in Argentum (sterling alloy) with gold fittings.Tolerances are .005". It slips in and out like silk.

Sam, you inspire me to get out in the forge more and strike some steel. I forged a couple of swords last week, because I felt bad after seeing that you had done some.
You should try some minis. They sell for as much as full size blades often. It just takes teeny-tiny hammers and tongs.
Stacy

Seriously, your seax made me want to make one soon. They are awesome weapons.

His seax is seaxy, it's made me want to go out and forge one myself =) Sam spends more time forging for the sake of forging than anyone I know. Man, if I win the lottery, I'm going to retire and do nothing but things like forging and having fun, and I'll probably never catch up =)

Stacy, that's amazing, and yes, Sam does have way too much forge time (I'm jealous)

Stacy, thanks, the feeling is mutual, I just gotta try a mini now! I took that seax out to test it out (non heat treated) and was chopping on some solid ice blocks pushed up from the plow, even with the as forged 1/8th thick edge it feels really good in the hand, alot of guts behind the cut, from the base of the edge to the tip, you are 100% when you say they are awesome weapons.

Justin, go for it! I like forging, I am a blacksmith and i just love forging, as is evidenced by the pile of blades I have going at any given time, and the other pile of unfinished blades next to that. I often get struck by the muse to forge out a blade and only recently by the muse to finish them. I am also still getting the equipment to do all the stuff for them myself, the last thing I need is an HT setup, going to build a 55 gallon drum forge for now until I can get Salts going, and then I will be able to complete more stuff.

Forging has to be my favorite part, I hope one day to get to the point where i can just forge, then heat treat, then put the edge on, then mount the guard and handle and pommwl and stuff, for any blade any size.

If you ever get to meet and see Christoph Deringer forge a blade, his forging is such that you basically can just take it, put a quick edge on it and slap a handle on it and it's done. He uses polished planishing hammers to finish the bevels and all even. I've got a blade that he forged at the ABS hammerin up at Wulf's last year hanging over my desk as inspiration of what to aspire to for a forged blade.
