Finnish/Earlier Scandi axes - Kirves

With those it always is, because it tapers in every direction.
Yeah, and the top of the eye is oval.
Just curious: How did you start the taper? Front to back or side to side? Looks like you did the side to side first? I alsways start front to back.
First collard head hang for me. Started at the top of the handle and worked down.

Bang it on, bang it off, take off a little wood, bang it on, bang it off, take off a little wood, bang it on, bang it off, take off a little wood, bang it on, bang it off, take off a little wood, bang it on, bang it off, take off a little wood, bang it on, bang it off, take off a little wood, bang it on, bang it off, take off a little wood, bang it on, bang it off, take off a little wood, bang it on, bang it off, take off a little wood. . .

Ja,it's a nice old axe. Some early small factory,or maybe even a village forge...
Haft is a bit fanciful, but looks practical enough for all that.

EDIT: wrong axe

wondered if you could help out which model
It is a Billnäs
Weight with Handel is 3.43kg
3.43 kilogram = 7.561 855 592 9 lbs.

Referring to this one

This chart might help:

The "P" (1,2,& 3) are my designations. Yours would be a P2 . Measure the blade width of your axe and see if you can rule out any model numbers. Of course as these blades are sharpened the width will decrease. Estimating the head weight may also help rule out some, but I would prefer that others explain the caveats.

Well I paid just a shade over £220,I don't know if this was too much or not but ime happy with it now its cleaned up a bit still work to do on her though

High roller Joe. I may be mistaken, is B 12.2 some kind of holy grail of axes? Scandi heads go for about 10 € at any junk market here, restorable condition. But then, what good is a roll of cash when you need a blade?

A nice piilukirves in great condition going for €220 shipped if you are halfway around the world from Finland might not be unusual.

You don’t just bump into old, intact Finnish axes in a junk market here (PNW in my case).

I would liken it to finding a good condition Puget Sound felling axe at a Finnish junk market, or similar.

The Kemi model N°12.x (Billnäs/Kellokoski-Mariefors) can definitely be had for much less.

I would just like to find a solid Swedish friend to bid on my behalf with the “Scandinavia buyers only” listings on Tradera ;)
