Looks good Hank. Does the tiger knap throw sparks from the spine?

CKE2 - looks great. Since you can do it on your own, how about making yourself a little kydex for that BRK&T to save space in your kit? Given that you are packing in twine already (which is great!), I'd suggest a tiny little ziplock (steal one from your wife's earrings) bag with char cloth. You can get that to catch a spark oh so easily.

One other thing a small Fresnel lens. You can get your piece of charcloth glowing in no time with one and then blow it into flame using the twine as a tinder basket. I grabbed the one below out of a cheap Coglans survival whistle sold at Canadian tire. The whistle has a button compass, fresnel lens and mirror. I Popped out the button compass of mine for use with a walking stick. Then I ripped out the tiny fresnel lens and mirror and added it to my PSK. Doesn't weigh hardly anything, is flat and it works great!

oh yeah the tiger knapp throws some good spark, so that's always going to be around my neck:thumbup:

I updated my Fire Kit

firekit2.jpg

Walmart Torch Lighter, Mil Match Case with Ancient and very Dry Matches, Spark Lite Kit, Scout FireSteel with Fat Wood, Film Canister full of Sterno, More Lighter Pine, Vic Trailmaster? (like the Trekker, but adds the file....), Bic Lighter (minus the zip tie safety, as I have never noticed any loss of fluid), Film Canister full of Coghlan's answer to Cotton & Vaseline. All nicely contained in a Kifaru Pull Out.

Added Whistle and Headlight, Cotton & Petrolatum, Cottom Paraffin, Paper-Towel & Paraffin, and Stormproof Matches.

Sorry no camera:

Level 1 sling bag, Constant-On-body:

- Magnesium block (I use the serrated blade on my SOG Powerlock to strike it)

Level 2 On pack:

- Coghlan's Water proof matches in film canister
- Cotton tinder
- Small Bic lighter
- Small candle

Oh, I stumbled on to bushcraft and survival master, Mr. Mears himself, on his constant kit for a humid, tropical environ -

Mike ~ where did you get the mini tri-winged esbit stove and what are your opinions of it? Thanks, Chris
