Don't apply for unemployment benefits. Find a temp job doing anything, for any pay as long as it is not under the table. After you get laid off you can draw benefits on your previous work. I worked construction for years and drew lots of unemployment when necessary. There are other ways also, if you want to know PM me. Jess

Sam - Just a piece of advise about unemployment insurance.

Unless they had real cause ( theft, serious and repeated rules violations, etc.) you still qualify. And, THEY are the ones who have to fight your unemployment application and request a hearing. Many employers will fire an employee and hope they won't file. Once the employee does, they never show up or reply to contest.

It costs nothing for you to apply...you are unemployed - and that is what the system is for.

Now, if this has anything to do with the 300 hammer heads you forged at work and sold on ebay, the boss's recent surprise black headed grandchild ( born with a tattoo on one ankle), and the rock music being piped through the PA system....well......maybe.
