firestarting in extreme conditions

I have been fooling with these recently, they make firestarting trivial even in horrible enviroments they generate so much heat and flame. I have for example walked into an drift, shoveled out a hole, through boughs down, used the pre-made log and just burned wet wood with no effort to make shavings, or split it.

I'd be interested in this too. There is one that has been all over the TV for sale. I am not sure how good it is or if it is as durable as they claim...I doubt I believe you can drive over it and have it still work like they say in the ad! Anyways, love to hear if anyone has one or uses one, does it produce enough/much light, how long does some :jerkit: last, and how delicate is it (can not imagine it will stroke very well after deformation from say...a car driving over it).
got one of these "forever" flashlights at wally world for $6. just a couple of shakes
:jerkit:and it and you got a preety good light. mine only has one LED, so i would think it is similar to any single LED keychain light. as far as duration goes, I left mine on when i fell asleep, it was still on when i woke up 7 hours later. only draw back is its bulky, about 5"-6" long and diameter of a D cell battery. haven't taken outside to see how it works for lighting a path, but it lights my bedroom up quite well.

I've been trying a variation of Cliffs idea. It is a cardboard tube filled with chopped rubber band and covered with wax. Once started, it burns anything around it. Starting it is the chore, I think Skunks idea with duct tape is the answer. I've gotta try this soon. Thanks for this Great thread guys.
