First 110 -Is custom worth almost 3x the cost?

I ordered the indigo 112 from C&C and was disappointed with the color. It looked more like a dark green than the blue they show on their website. Had it actually looked more blue I would have ordered the 110 version as well. I assume the blue wood on the Buck custom site is more blue in color.

Blue and Brass looks better than I thought Dog. I was convinced NS was the only way to go, but I was wrong. Nice knife!

Buck's laminated wood can be hit or miss sometimes. 99.9% hit, but I've had a few misses. It sucks if it happens to you. If it came dark green Revolver, send it back!

I'm happy the OP went with a Custom Knife. There is something special about ordering what you want and getting it directly from Buck. It will always be extra special!

Glad you got the one you wanted. Order a custom knife now, use until it is worn out. Send back to Buck for a polish and whatever, die happy.

Let’s be honest, stag handle is next?!

Not a fan of blue and gold myself, but if I was I’d look closely at SMKW blue bone version w the retro Buck script. If that series was in nickel they’d sell like crazy

Not worth the extra, if all you change us the handle.

C&C has. Beautiful 110 with green wood, and an awesome indigo blue nickle silver drop point 110. Both cheaper than a custom.

Just my opinion and only experience with SMKW... The one and only time I wanted to order from them, I noticed that there was no "comments" section on the order form. I'm used to dealing with online knife dealers that have that section for requests, such as to check for lockup, blade centering, etc. to save both me and the seller time in case of a lemon slipping through.

With no comment section anywhere within the online ordering pages, I called in to order, and the representative told me that it was impossible to check knives because (paraphrasing) they came in little boxes and there are too many of them to check... I was ordering one knife. Dissatisfied, I canceled my order and immediately ordered the knife from another online dealer whom I've had good experience with before... in fact one incident they called me to verify what I had written in the comments section.

Just something to note, as I've heard good things about SMKW, but I won't do business with them when other reputable online dealers offer and pay attention to the customer comments section on the order page.

check out some of mine---I state the knife ya see is the knife ya get---on probably 90% of my listings...so that way you get to see---I try to put a picture of all those coments...

Sweet, Barman. Which scales are those?

Sorry to derail the conversation....
I think we're on point with the op's question.
Silver nickel bolsters, S30V drop point, finger grooves(obviously), exposed rivets, and ironwood scales.
Probably some other options I missed but I am pleased with Buck's custom shop work and wouldn't hesitate for a second spending the premium for another.
Also grabbed a nice cross-draw sheath for a stealthier carry. One of these days I'll get some proper pictures of this photogenic son of a gun.
And PS: Those spots on the rear bolster are reflections. The picture was taken brand new right out of the box.

I think a big part of the custom shop is knowing it was made just for you. I only have one out of there (nickle bolsters, oak, and s30v) and it just feels better than any other 110 I have. It has the feeling that whoever made it was making it for themselves and did a fantastic job. That's one of those things you just can't put a price on....

My indigo was black on one side and blue on the other. I'm almost at the point I'm just only going to buy in person. No problems with off the shelf knives. Too many problems with customs.

Kossetx, mine is the exact same way. I almost wanted to start a thread here on the forums about it. I have ordered knives from them in the past and have never had any issues but this one really disappointed me. Fit/finish were great but here's where it gets weird: One scale side is so dark in color it almost looks black. The other side has the "indigo" color but it looks more green than blue. I was always taught that indigo was a deep shade of blue. I was expecting a more blue color. I ordered mine late last year to commemorate my getting married. And before I ordered I even corresponded with C&C through emails and told them that I would appreciate it if they could hand pick one for me since it was for a special occasion and so that I knew I wasn't getting any surprises. They said "no problem". I think it's too late for me to return, but knowing that yours looked the same tells me that the chances are pretty high of me getting another with the same green/black shade of color. They should have labeled these "Dark Emerald" 112/110's or at the very least discounted them for mismatched scales. I may just have to post pictures in a new thread and get everyone's opinion. The dark side doesn't even look like it has color showing through.

That's kinda sad. There seems to be an attitude that since most people won't go to the trouble of sending it back.......we'll be careless and we'll only have to deal with the few who do send it back.

Buck really should deal with quality control issues and not lay this on the customer to be inconvenienced.

The top four are my very first from the custom shop. I got one every year. The top one from 2004.

Very nice collection! I am new to buck and found this thread very interesting. I have a 110 in 5160 on order. Wondering whether the custom shop changes their offering every year. Don’t see any of your handle materials available currently?

Hh, Handle materials change from time to time without fanfare ,best way to know if anything has been added is just to check the website occasionally.

Over the years Buck has changed their offerings in the custom shop based on availability and cost. That is why if I see something that I really like, I get it while it is still there.
