First Big Knife......Definitely Not The Last!

Spectacular nails it. The knife and handle are just great and it was especially kind of you to include the disassembly picture. Thanks!

Thank you Sheila, I'll get a hold of you after recovery.

Thanks Chris but I won't be making the sheath for this one, the knife now belongs to Paul Long (sheathmaker)

Thanks Bob

How did you texture the bolster insert and the "spine" in the handle ?
rashid11,
On the bolster texturing, I use an 1/8" round carbide burr in a flex shaft and make a random pattern applying more and less pressure to create hills and valleys.
Once It's completely covered and I'm happy with the pattern I use a small wire wheel in the flex shaft to blend everything, soften the edges of the hills and smooth out the tooling marks from the valley's, finish with a light oil rubbing of 4/0 steel wool and gun oil.

Not sure I know what you mean about the spine of the handle but here's what I did. The handle is made up of 5 pieces, the checkering file lined (20 lpi) copper center piece is sandwiched between 2 bronze pieces topped with 2 black G-10 pieces then the entire assembly is blind pinned (6 pins) to the stag scales. The handle is secured to the blade with a pin through the tang then epoxied, I added another checkered copper pin and thong tube.

Hope that all made sense, if it didn't please let me know

Thanks Tai

Steven, dlpierson, I was hoping another maker may like to see the insides, thanks!

Dave

Dave, I am so happy to be on your short list for a knife. I see these that you're making and I'm just overcome with awe in the detail you put in these knives. These little biddy pieces of detail then add up to the finished product, which is magnificant.

I'll try some today to finish up the blank and send to you.
Robert

Typical Kelly knife....over the top, in your face knock out good....

You are one of the few that use copper and bronze and I honestly don't know why. It looks great every time. That stag is stunning. Chuck should be sick about letting that go.

Dave, another winner...

I've got to agree. I own the original smaller knife that Paul had copied. (He tried to steal it while making the sheath. :D ) Dave makes a great knife.

All ya'll stay away till Dave gets better and we can talk about my next knife.
