i just want to know how much would i be looking to spend on a first blood jimmy lile knife, the one used by rambo in the movie, new or used,or if anyone has one for sale, and also, hows the quality on the one made by i think its united cutlery, so how are those ones, i realy like this particular design so if anyone could help

thanks,
Anthony

i plan on using it once in a while, why is united cutlery so bad, and can anyone answer my questiom on how much i would be looking to pay for an origonal

The originals sold from Lile for about $600-$800 and were made from D2 steel.

Now that Lile is gone and many years has gone by, expect to pay anywhere from $1000 -$1500 for the first blood knife and around $5000 for the knife from the second movie.

Les Robertson gets them once in a while, but if he gets it for you, you're going to pay for it.

I don't think it's so ridiculous. The Rambo movies (especially the second movie) have made Lile's survival knife amoung the most famous knives in the world. That makes them highly demanded, and expensive.

If I bought one, I sure as hell wouldn't use it. That's like buying a rare stamp and mailing it.

If you want a Lile looking survival knife. You can get yourself a custom one made, or check out Randall, Chris Reeves as they make hollow handled survival rigs.

The united cutlery reproductions were never intended to be used. They were manufactured for hobby collectors, sort of like miniture cars.

I suppose you could use a United Cutlery Rambo knife, but that 420 J2 isn't going to stand up to even relatively hard use. It will dull incredibly quickly and the knife could quite possibly break during use. You see, these knives are not designed to be used. They are designed to sit in a display case or on the wall.

how much would it cost to have an exact replica of th knife made,by a custom knife maker with more durable materials

custom knifemakers will follow a "free market" system and every maker would be different... assuming you could find one that would make it for you...

Many knifemakers will not "copy" another's design without asking permission first.

The second movie is more well known than the first. Additionally the knife from the second movie is bigger and more dramatic looking.

I bought a copy ( the black one ) in Laredo Tx, it was made in Taiwan and I only pay 12 dlls, it is made of bad quality materials but I put WD40 every 20 or 30 days in order to get it clean.

It is showed at my office ( home )

is that the one made by united cutlery, and how does it hold up, is that also a Hitler youth knife i see

The First Blood knife was always available from Lile as custom order albeit without a number,,,screwdriver guard and polished edges were an optional extra on the catalogue version of the Sly II.The knife from the second move,,,Rambo The Mission,,,was made in 1984 and there were only 100 of these ever made,,,a black blade version was never available even as a custom order,,,so i guess this maybe the reason why the second movie knife commands a better price.Do yourself a favour and do whatever you can to buy an original Lile i promise you you won't be dissapointed,,,i own four and my kids will get them eventually,,,the united cutlery versions are just ornaments,,,think twice,,,buy once,,,buy LILE,,,!!!

Actually, the owner of A.G. Russell was offering about 4,500 each for the seven remaining First Blood knives. I got really sick.

I was a client of the old "Cutlery World." One of those original movie knives was offered to me for 600 bucks. I had the money in my pocket.

I declined the offer because the knife looked rough.

United Cutlery "survival knives" are poorly made pieces of junk if boght with the intention of owning a knife. If you buy one just for decoration it is ok, just like if you buy a lightsabre replica. If you want a low priced survival knife go with something from Becker or Cold Steel. If you get a 7" or 9" Becker you can put a larger survival kit in the sheath's pocket than you can put in the Rambo Knife's handle. The Becker will also be a FAR better knife then the Rambo Knife and even cost less.

In custom knives you usually get what you pay for!
Try getting some quotes from the famous makers and after the sticker shock wears off, try some of the guys over at the Shop Talk forums.
