First Bowie

Great looking overall profile, handle is nicely contoured, really like your guard and fileworked spacer.
I agree with your sharpening the clip next time. A single pin would add aesthetically by accenting the beautiful white ivory IMO.

I wouldn't worry to much about the "fighter" thing. Even though we put a lot of emphasis on fighters on this forum, there isn't a lot of knife fighting going on these days. ;)

I had to LOL at that! Not that I can see either....

Oh and Haley... Sweet Bowie! You are very talented. I was admiring your work on your website a while ago....

Yep, I like it too. It is what it is, no matter what you call it. To me it is a fine looking Bowie. Great work. We sometimes over-think things. But if we didn't, we might never get better.

Looking forward to seeing you guys again at Blade, maybe this time we will even get to talk some. My wife is coming with me this time so that will make it an even better show for me this year.

Again, good work.

Great Knife Hailey. I really like the slight re-curve and the contrast in the guard and Ivory. I am curious about the "Joe's dissertation on what makes a good fighting bowie" where could I find this dissertation? Have seen a lot of Bowies come around lately, this is one if my favorites.

Thanks for the kind words! A cross pin may be even stronger yet but having recently removed a hidden tang, no pin, ironwood handle off a knife I can tell you you'll need a hammer or hydralic press to get the thing off and it will come off in little pieces. There's no way the knife would get abused half that much even under the hardest use. I do think pins are pretty though. Camp knives are much easier to design because you can actually test and use them for their intended purpose.

I totally get that with a good adhesive, I won't "need" a cross pin. That is why I said I like the "thought" of a structural member.

I can guarantee you, even if I could bring my self to put a knife with a chunk of ivory to reasonable use, I would not be doing anything abusive to it like throwing it, or using the spine to hammer my tent pegs etc!

Looks VERY good to me Haley. The blued fittings and spacer combination look good with the ivory and blade. Also, your initials may be an added attraction to Harley lovers!

If a person was actually going to use it as a fighting bowie, a sharpened top clip would be nice. ;)

Otherwise, very nice work! Love the guard ... that must have taken a while to do.

Mark we'll look forward to seeing you and meeting your wife for sure.

Thanks Ryan. I was referring to JParanee's thread on his latest Jason Knight bowie.

Joe also put up some interesting stuff in Matthew Gregory's 10" Bocote Bowie thread.

You don't want to know how many times I refinished, resanded, rebent or reblued that capricious thing. Next time I will know how not to do it anyway:)

Our manganese phosphate just came in the mail and we tested it out last night on our damascus wedding rings, the stuff is amazing! I'll be chucking that silly bottle of cold blue in a muskeg hole!

Peter - I never thought about my initials appealing to the Harley Davidson crowd, that's a new marketing angle for sure :D

+1--an impressive body of work. That bowie has honest lines and a comfortable and beautiful handle--more than can be said for many you see these days. I also like the flair shown with the guard and ferrule--not over the top, just right.

Great work Haley,
Very clean and smooth style!!!
Good to sse your work
Best regards to you guys!!

That's a great looking Bowie, aggressive with nice lines. The hamon looks fine, and that handle and guard are top-notch. Hope to see more of your work at Blade. (And some of that other DesRosiers', too)

Hello Haley! Very nice bowie, congratulations! I wish I had started that good...
We're missing you guys here, Can't wait to see yall again in Blade. Are you going to test this year?

Cheers!

Thanks everyone...I'm humbled and inspired by all the words of encouragement from so many makers I admire and collectors who's opinion I respect.

Rodrigo, we miss you two as well and hope that Glenda can come one of these years to make us a foursome again! I do plan to test this year and look forward to showing you the integrals I've been working on.

All the best,
Haley
