Good day to everyone.. have been doing a lot of reading about BRKT, always hearing(reading?) a lot of very good things about the knives, but never really thought about acquiring one since am in the Philippines and the chances of me finding a store that has it here is next to nil ( aside form that the price would be outrageous!) anyway.. I stumbled onto this site http://www.crystalfallstradingcompany.com/ And they ship here! so of course i start to drool at the possibilities... although shipping costs are quite high.... but what can i do eh?

So would like to pick your brains when it comes to what should be my first Barkie... have my eye on a couple of models:

The Aurora
http://www.crystalfallstradingcompany.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=693
The Bravo-1
http://www.crystalfallstradingcompany.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=909
The Canadian special
http://www.crystalfallstradingcompany.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=35_76&products_id=705
Or the Canadian Camp
http://www.crystalfallstradingcompany.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=35_99

these are the knives that have been looking at, have read the reviews (and all have very good ones at that)
so would like to get your opinion as to which i should get?

not to eliminate any of the other knives that are available.. but these are the ones i like the look of :D so am open to suggestions.
any input you guys would give would be greatly appreciated.

guille,

All good choices. Also, don't forget the Fox River. What will be your primary use, where and when will you carry it, etc.?

I don't own any of them (yet) but after handling the Aurora, I'm borderline obsessed with it. It has really tickled my fancy for what a good field blade should be.

Wow... that was quick. :D that's why i love bladeforums!
@ Brian: the knife would be my main "go to" knife... for my BOB or When Shtf.... not for edc as i am a veterinarian and for clinic use it would be hard to justify he he... but i want a good, sturdy, easy to maintain knife that can do almost anything.
@pistolero: wish i could handle the knives as well, would make my choices easier. but i really like the look of the aurora and dont doubt that if i held any of the knives it would be very hard for me to put them down :D

i would also go with the bravo-1..

i recently got one for my b-day... i was blown away when i opened it up... the knife is hardcore... it feels great for it's size...

I have the B1 and Canadian Camp, a couple of mates have the Aurora. To be honest, you can't go wrong with any of them. Just pic the one that you like the looks of best.

I like all the choices you have but I am partial to the canadian ones. Another BRKT I like is the wolf river. I don't have any experience with BR other then the mikro canadian so I can't give you any reasons for my choices other then looks though.

My favorite is the Aurora, but you can't go wrong with the Bravo 1 either. The B1 is stouter/heavier, while the Aurora has a finer point that would be more appropriate for drilling or thrusting.

I recently received my first- Aurora & while I have not gottten to abuse(I mean "use" )it yet- I really like the knife. Narrow from edge to spine for agility in carving and getting into "crevices", nice sharp tip that is not fragile. Handle is long which give room to move for and aft in grip and plently of leverage. Grip is contoured enough to be secure.

I just won a Fox River for cheap on Ebay and am looking hard at the Golok. A lost order placed recently cost me a Slither but I am still on the lookout. :)

There was a huge amount of thoiught put into the Aurora design. One of the great things about BRKT is that Mike Stewart is an experienced and avid outdoorsman. Nothing like having one of our own designing the knives for our needs and dersires!

That's why Scott Gossman also makes some of the most outstanding wilderness tools around. He is an experienced user as well, and he is incredibly focused on every details and step of the process, from initial blank to heat treat, in order to make his blades the best they can possibly be.

When looking for a good blade, the best makers to choose from are the ones who know firsthand what they want a blade to do for them.

I'm still a big fan of the Northstar. It's a nice compact blade.

The mini northstar is pretty nice too!

Well, if by SHTF, you include fighting people and generally abusing the knife, probably the Bravo-1 would be the better choice.

For out int he woods, practicing skills and generally camping and having fun, the Aurora is terrific. It's the one I went with for my first BRKT, and I've yet to find anything I don't like about it.

I also went ahead and got the firesteel that fits the loop on the sheath, some blaze orange paracord for a lanyard, and the BRKT strop and honing compound for keeping up the convex edge. Oh, I also got the drop loop, so the knife sits lower on my belt than with just the sheath alone -- just a preference).
