First BRKT

I was in the same boat not long ago so I just got an Aurora AND a Canadian Camp. Both fit their roles superbly and compliment each other nicely. I guess the Aurora could be replaced by a Fox River (better slicer and great for food prep due to the full convex and thinner blade) or a Canadian. Sadly Bark River doesn't have many more big blades like the Canadian Camp (besides the Roge I mean).

I love the bravo 1, but I'm current seeking a trade for an Aurora simply for weight reduction. I have other bushie type blades, but nothing compares to the convex of the barkies.

Either Bravo or Aurora, you really can't go wrong. I have also been eye balling the new Big sky camp knife and the black more prototyes, but they are on the larger side.

This thread is worthless without pics, hehehe

I can't speak for the Canadian's but I do have a Bravo-1 and Aurora. I like both, but I think the Bravo-1 is a little better or should I say more "well-rounded" knife in my opinion. If I was to choose for the first one, it would be the Bravo-1...second would be the Aurora...third....oops:D

Sigh......:D looks like my first choice was the most popular... hehehe the bravo-1!!
looks like that is what the majority is saying( was the one i liked the most as well)....although the Canadian special is coming in a close 2nd.... thanks for all the input and will post when i get my decision in the mail hehehe

I guess the Bravo1 is all the rage right now but don't overlook the others. When looking at BRKT I was thinking in something suited for slicing, food prep and general chores. I have more substantial knives at home I don't hesitate to abuse but didn't want my BRKT's to fit that role. Think carefully what do you want your new BRKT to do for you, maybe you realise that the Bravo1 is not the one your are looking for.

The Aurora is full convex and both blades are .170" thick. The Fox River is .25" shorter, and shaped better for skinning and food/game prep, the Aurora is shaped more for "bushcraft". Which is better depends on what you want to do primarily.

True, the Fox River is shorter but the blade has a shape more suited for food prep and slicing. I don't agree with you when you say that both are full convex... I asked a few guys before buying mine (Aurora) and the blade happens to be more of a convex scandi than a full blown convex. When mine arrived it felt exactly like that. The Fox River is more of a full flat grind.

MMmmm, I guess it does have about 1/8" toward the spine that isn't convexed (maybe they messed up on mine?), but I'd hardly call mine a "scandi" convex. But I can see how it could have been ground a bit narrower. Since we both agree on what each was meant to do, I'll assume the differences are intentional to each design. I'll admit that it was hard to choose between the Aurora and FR for myself, and I'll probably end up getting a FR for hunting (game prep) at some point in the future.

I must add that I am VERY PLEASED with my NorthStar! I chose it over the Bravo and many other Barkies as my "camping knife" after much research. Food prep (actually been my main kitchen knife for a good while now), bush craft (thats what it was designed for), ...you name it! I have other Barkies also. All great! I don't think you can go wrong with any BRK&T. I'm just so glad I've found what "I" wanted. Good luck, Matt

Just FYI, my first production run Aurora is full convex like my Fox River. They changed that in later releases.

Any Barkie is better than none! Out of your picks Id say the Aurora or the Bravo 1.

I have a Highland as my EDC and I have a PSK and a Mikro Canadian II on the way. LOL I got my Highland two weeks ago so that should tell you something about the addiction. :D
