Hey guys. I would like some advice on my first completed knife. This is 1095 steel. 4" blade 4.5" handle. Home brew micarta scales. I have a list of things that I will be working on moving forward, but I would like your input as well. What am I missing? Sorry for the crappy pictures, I snapped them with my phone. Thanks for looking!

Evidently I am dumm, so I can't figure out how to post pictures. Sorry for links (I hope these work).

Your first knife looks great!

Better fit and finish than my first. I will say one thing, wont lose that on the forest floor among leaves.

That looks fantastic! Did you forge the blade? Also, what kind of grind/profile does the blade have? Nice work!

Thanks moose. I did stock removal with this one. I haven't yet even imagined forging yet. Baby steps for me :D. It has a high blended flat grind. 1/8" bar stock.

One thing I suggest is that you put some curve or drop in the rear of the handle. Its a bit too straight and you may get a hot spot in your palm if you used it hard for a while. A curved drop in the rear of the handle feels much more comfortable in your hand. Curves feel great and curves are sexy and sex SELLS!

Over all, I think you have done quite well! Now get back to the shop and show us some more!

Nice first knife.

As you know the tube rivet holes are both off, the front one most noticably. Also, the knife spine could use just a tad of curve, especially at the butt ( doesn't everyone like a curvy butt :) )

Congrats on finishing your first! I think you did a very good job. You may want to consider rounding some of the sharp points of the kydex. And, yes, curves are a very good thing. If you like to draw your patterns before making them I recommend using french curves - you can find them on Amazon, Office Depot, or any art supply store.

If I may add, the notch at the base of your edge is to small to be a finger choil, and much bigger then is necessary for a sharpening groove. You also might consider moving your sheath's belt loops to the furthest rivets. This will make it much more stable on your belt. Very nice for a first knife however.

Thanks adin. Yeah the choil is definitely not useful right now. More just for looks than anything. Good point on the sheath. Thank you.

I gave the knife to my Dad as an early Christmas gift. He has an elk hunt in Colorado that he is leaving for this week. I will let you guys know how it performs.
