First decent knife

Ok, certainly not premium steel (Aus8 & 440C), but I wonder how well the Boker Plus Bob and Bobbi would do for the desired tasks. Admittedly I'm not a hunter or farmer, but in terms of ergos that I envision being needed, these are insanely comfortable in many different grips and positions. Though very thick in stock material. Certainly not likely to break during normal (or probably even abusive) use.

Would be interested to hear if anyone has actually used these for processing.

Here's the little Bobbi....

Also, liners or no liners? Then I just need to pick a colour haha. But that's the easy one and is unimportant

Noticed you asked about sharpening. So...

If you can spend 60 more bucks you could get something called a Sharpmaker from Spyderco. They are a great beginner stepping stone. You can easily produce a nice edge and maintain it when you need with little to no time really. I loved mine, but naturally I needed more so I went with the Edge Pro ultimately.

Ps. You can spend another 20 bucks and order a "strop block" from Knivesplus to make your maintaining even easier between sharpenings. I'll drop the link below if your interested. They are top notch and use the best/softest leather from Armarillo Texas. Greats guys to work with too.

Ah thanks so much. I can actually get a sharpmaker for cost price through work but i didn't think they were suitable for Bark River due to the convex grind?

All good! Just wanted to clarify thanks so much guys.
Any suggestions on whether to get liners or not?

Welcome Benen and hope you are not too overwhelmed. I have a couple more suggestions.

Someone else already mentioned the Chris Reeve Nyala, great knife. You really need to pick it up to appreciate it.

But reading your initial post, the White River knives Scout immediately came to mind. Check it out. I have their Knucklehead and Caper, both excellent. The Scout has a 2.5 in blade, but has a full size handle that will accommodate a variety of grips, their S30v is excellent. At $140 US it is a relative bargain.

Thinking about onojoe. I previously only appreciates that knives suited different purposes but there is so much more to it!

I love O1 tool steel. Something you just keep stropped up after a days worth of use. Make sure you oil or wax it every so often. Holds a good edge. Really good steel that I use for EDC.

Finally, g10 or micarta for animal processing?
As I understand it, micarta is better than g10 in damp conditions however it is not as dense which makes it harder to maintain?

Does the micarta need a lot of extra care? I'm usually very precious of my belongings also.

Let us know what you decide, I suggested the White River Knives Scout, which I don't have. I took my advice to heart and just ordered one. This forum is expensive! ;)

Haha. Yeah I can see myself not stopping at one! I'm quite settled on the Little Fox River at the moment but am letting it sit for a few days to make sure I don't change my mind!

Super boo! Just went to buy the knife from knivesshipfree and the cheapest shipping is over $80USD!
