First Emerson - New to me CQC8!

Or, you could skip all that and just put a few drops of light mineral oil in the pivot. At least that's all i do to my Emerson's :D

That's all you have done?

I don't even own any emersons. I was just trying to stir stuff up.

Actually, I have done the oil thing. I am just speaking from experience.

My first Emerson, along with most but a few, always have the pivot screws come loose.... Until loctite. Then a tip from a fellow emerson owner about the Teflon tape and no more mess with loctite or loose pivot screws. And to top it of, properly lubed I don't have a need to take it apart or carry wd around in my pocket.

Like I said earlier, do what you like.

Best regards

All my Emerson and Benchmade knives have the pivot come loose. I use teflon tape on the pivot for all of them and it's great.

Hey---That Teflon Tape is MY trick!!
How did you learn about the Teflon Tape fix, Mong?

Did a trade with a guy and got a 2008 PE Satin CQC8 for $75 and a used AR stock that I don't use anymore... couldn't be happier with the deal.

Have a few questions though since I've never had an Emerson and non around these parts to compare to..

The gentleman I purchased from said it was a 2008 model. It is is excellent condition and came with box/registration card and blade looks new. I did notice looking at other pics that mine only has 2 screws on the non-clip side where others I see have three. Also mine has the older chisel grind vs v-grind. Lockup is super tight but the action is super slow... is there breakin period for these?

Thanks,
Hawk

The date should be printed on the blade so that should be easy to confirm. The difference in handle screws would be a concern I would want to confirm that this knife is not a counterfit Emerson. I know there are plaeny of fake commanders floating around out there.

Well, you lucky im not a mod then :D:thumbup:

You must have misinterpreted my words somewhere along the way. That and maybe you don't know me that well. I have never "trolled" the forums.

I can see I have upset you somehow, so my apologies:thumbup:.

Later.

You have to be doing pretty well to piss me off bro :D:thumbup:

Hawk45: I want to try to explain my thinking for you.

This knife is the smoothest Emerson that I own. The pivot screw has never come loose and I have never added any lube to any part of it. This has been stabbed through bone and you can't even tell.

On the other hand, this knife was very stiff when I first received it. As were all of my coated Emersons. It seemed to me that the lube really helped to speed up removing the coating where the washers ride. Now, all of my coated knives are very smooth but still not as smooth as the knife shown above. This one also needed the teflon tape.

Have fun!!

OT: Ok, where can I get a 19-eleven? (no, not the gun :p ) That knife looks seriously awesome :thumbup:
