First Emerson, tough choices

Well,......A100 on the way and a Mini CQC7 so I get my spear blade on one and a full chisel on the other. No looking back now. The CQC has not left my hands or pocket all week. My poor Osborne 940 is wondering what happened :-)

Now that's a sweet looking CQC-7 right there.

The well loved look is great. As much as I favor black blades (for this very reason of how they wear in) I would love to find a satin with the same level of hard use.

Seems like Emersons are just something some people love and others hate. I have seen very few people with the opinion that Emersons are just ok.

I can't see what is not to like. I see no fit/finish issues with any of mine, 2001 to brand new. I like my Chris Reeve knives but these just have a less refined, get it done feel to them so appeal in a different way. There is a place for both. No frills, and I think Ernest said in one of his interviews, "this isn't a fashion show". Funny, while my friends were all driving either performance or luxury cars I drove a series Land Rover for 15 years. I guess I am more of a utility kind of guy.

Here is my very well used satin cqc7v blade. I reprofiled it into a true V edge. (Waste of time imho, Emersons’s V main bevel + chisel edge combo is already close enough to a v edge.)

Kind of hard to see in this light but this blade is actually covered in scratches. If you look closely you can see some of them.

The feeling I get putting an Emerson in my pocket is totally different than the feeling I get putting my CRKs in. I feel like I can do anythinf with my Emerson. With my nicer folders I can’t help but baby them abit. Even if I tell myself not to.

With the Emerson I just feel way more confident in the knife as an all around tool. I can use the butt as an improvised hammer. Use the wave to pry the child safeties off lighters. My nicer pocket knives I will only cut with.

Had to get an old school Emerson as well...

I love the older Emersons too. I've got a no-wave '01 7B and carry it regularly. Always on the lookout for another. They just have a feel to them that the newer models don't.

If you like the older 7's get yourself a Benchmade 970 (the first CQC-7). Now that's a cool 7 to hold. It just has a history you can feel.

I’d get a cqc7aw now. It’s by far a great knife. I carry mine over all my CRK’s and striders. Love them all but the Emerson’s just seem the most usable. And I’m a utility kinda guy too :)

That's saying a lot, that he loves his bearing-less Tigers. ;)

And no, they have not received any more as of last Friday. I'll be there again tomorrow.

I’d be camping out at there front door with a tent like a homeless person .
Holding a cardboard sign that says will work for bearings on a Tiger :D
