First Fiddleback Friday of 2013

That Bushcrafter looks fantastic. I have a friend up the road an hour or so who has one with a green handle, shadetree green burlap I think, and he just loves it. I can just imagine the balance with the tapered tang.

Cool! I'm really lookin forward to it

Andy I got one of the knives from this thread. Your address for Paypal didn't come across properly (I think) in a private email. Can you post it here please?

fiddlebackpayments at att dot net

This was on the new line up and contact thread for payments. I've used it.

No problem. The address is fiddlebackpayments at att dot net

You have to change the at and the dot to @ and . respectively and remove the spaces. You see this on forums because spammers scan this stuff for e-mail addresses.

Just so y'all know, the paypal address is listed in the first post in each Fiddleback Friday thread.

Andy: I'm noticing several more full height grind knives in this batch. Any reason you favored the full height grind vs. your typical grind height on the convex ground knives?

There were more people asking for higher grinds a while back I think. Also it may be like the tapered tang, a full height grind is a demonstration of greater skill because of the full distal taper from the handle to the tip. In all honesty, like the tapered tang, they will have less weight and they will cut (especially slice) better, something a lot of people look for in higher end custom knives that they carry on hiking, fishing, and hunting trips. I think I just like the 2/3 and 3/4 grinds better for my personal uses because I am subject to put a knife under more lateral stresses than a lot of people out there. For me, if I am confronted with a need to demonstrate a skill...or in more cases, an opportunity for a new experiment, it's going to happen with whatever knife I have on me at the time, whether it be a forty dollar BK&T or a three-hundred dollar Fiddleback. So I tend to sacrifice cutting abilities for strength. The average person is likely going to be better served by a higher grind. The Hunter I have has a 2/3 or so grind. It would likely be a little better meat processing knife with a full-height convex grind, but since I have a tendency to say "hey, I wonder if that will work..." and just start tearing into a tree, a stump, or whatever, I like having more steel in my spines. Plus...Andy knows this about me, that I am known to take a knife past their intended comfort zones and get a bit extreme with them, and it may worry him if I bought a knife with a thinly tapered tang and a full-height grind :D

I appreciate the response. It was something I noticed after viewing the Friday madness a while. I was just curious if it was a whim or if there was intention behind the increased number of knives with full height grinds.

2013 0104 013 – Bushfinger, Stabalized Dyed Maple Burl, Tapered Tang, Convex on 5/32” thick steel - SOLD!

This Bushfinger arrived today. The dyed maple has a lot more character in person than is depicted in the forum pics. I really like it. A friend of mine has a full tang Bushfinger and there is a definite difference in the feel of the overall grip toward the rear. Fit and finish is spot on as expected with Fiddlebacks. It's been quite an adventure obtaining this Fiddleback purchase due to my own indecisiveness starting about four Fridays ago. Thank you Andy for your patience and understanding. It turned out great and I can't wait to put it to work. Thanks!

No. I keep them here in a drawer under my desk for special occasions.

I received my bushcrafter last week, what a nice lookin blade, every grind is perfect , the tapered tang makes it quite light. The scales are perfect. 10 out of 10
