Hey guys on saturday I had the privledge of going to Don Robinson's shop and him showing me how to make a liner lock folder. He pulled out his manuals and made me think about the next step. In no way was he holding my hand, well maybe sort of. I made a bunch of simple mistakes and he let me know when I was doing things wrong. This is what I got done. I have the pivot pin, stop and stand off hole made. I ground out the blade at home. Man I can't wait to get done with this knife. Making a folder is some complicated stuff. I would have wasted the material that I took if it wasn't for him.
I am going to use bocote scales and black g-10 for the bolsters. What do yall think? Nice combo of scale material?

Hey, I think that looks great so far! I think the bocote / G10 will be a great combo. Make sure you keep this thread updated!

Hi what is the town you live in?
I lived in longview TX for about 30 years.
I know whut you are going through because i have been trying to make lock back folders and it is a witch with a B.
Good luck and have fun. J R H

I live in Weslaco, TX in the Rio Grande Valley, close to the border.

I am thinking of doing another at home, and try to do what I did in his shop with his equipment with my cheapo stuff. I can probably do it but it will be hard to be as precise.

How far from Brownsvill is that?
My wife worked down there for 3 months and i loved it .

Thats cool i love it down there.
I have been in Pregeso and Memories maby thirty or forty times Oh those all you can drink 5:00 happy hours are ruff.

Finally had a little time to do some more work on this guy. Here are some pics. I am worried that I went to low shaping the liner by the blade. The lock groove or whatever it is called is visible. CRAP!!!! Should I scrap it or is this ok?

I raise ye thread from the dead for an update. Here is where I left off months ago. I havn't had the nerve to continue. I don't like the blade to handle ratio so I need to stare at it and think a while before I do anything to it. My courage is beginning to build. Any advice?

I think it looks pretty great! Remember, folders will always have a longer handle than blade :D

Just go for it you will learn alot by the time you are finished.
That one looks good and keep at it.
I have scraped alot and only had some that came out good but i have learned on every one that i finished. JRH

I like it Frank!!!!
Once you round off the handles and bolsters the frame won't look near as big as it does now.
Have you ever done this before, rounded off a folder frame?
If not, the best way is to do it slack belt. Start with a 60 grit belt but don't take too much stock off. Then go to a 120 grit and take the handles and bolsters 95% of the way down to the finish. That will leave a little to remove when you're smoothing out the knife with the finer grits.
Hope I didn't jump in and sound like a know it all or anything!!!
You're folder will come out real nice I think!!!
