First Guard

VERY NICE Rick!!! Did you learn that trick as a tool and die maker??? ;) :p :D

I'd like to start doing a few knives like this to keep it all interesting--- I REALLY like the look/style. :)

I know... crazy, eh?

To think, 5 yrs ago I was working in tenths of a thou on projects that were bigger than tractor trailers.... now I'm hitting hot stuff with a hammer and purposefully leaving things "unfinished" to make them look "better". IMO, it is harder to accept something for it's simplistic raw beauty than to work it down to a highly finished state... not technically, but mentally.... and folks are always telling me I'm extremely mental.:D:thumbup:

It is? Well I am not going there cause I already find hard enough as it is. :(

So where it the next progress pic?;)

Nice post Rick :) I think it's very impressive you have been able to cover both ends of the spectrum. I keep trying to do some "raw forged" blades and then end up taking them all to the surface grinder :o :foot:

I guess this is a good example of being careful what you are "known for" and painting yourself in a corner as per style as the handful of rough textured knives I have turned out--- I personally loved, but most of my regular customers that are used to me being overly particular.... wanted to know what the hell I was thinking. :foot: :grumpy: :)

Luckily you can usually find some customers that aren't regulars that are willing to buy something different. ;) LOL :)

But Nick, would you have built the same "Cult like" following (and I mean that in a good way believe me) if you did not go the "particular" route?

Sorry for the thread hijack Rick.

No problem Pat... I was typing out the same question for Nick.

Truthfully guys, if I tried to achieve the the same look and finish as Nick, Stacy or Pat(:o) my work would be pale in comparisson and fall away to the side. The only way I can compete is by not trying to.

Progress pic incoming...

Rick

I have never seen Rick's Niche, but I am pretty sure I don't want to be funneled into it! :barf:

Don't be afraid... we're all adults, here.......... lol.

Progress pic... the handle is wrapped, epoxied and curing.

Really... I thought everybody had seen Rick's niche. He's not shy. ;)

Awesome work Rick. You make it look easy.

Holy crap! It came out great. Not that I was not expecting it to. It has one of those, the whole being more than a sum of it's parts things going on.

Nice:thumbup:

Rick, I think it looks great for your 1st try. I rather not say how many botched guards I've buried in my back yard.:o

Home Run Rick. My guess is that is the first one of many (And by Many I mean ALL) to fly off your Table at Blade!

Ryan nailed it... definitely a "Home Run". I'd be happy to have that show up in the mailbox.
