After getting trained by Stomper (JK Knives), I put together a shop of sorts, and built my first knife on my own.

Lessons learned:
My pins aren't straight. I can't template pins off a wood template, I need to measure them on the actual blade.

I overheated the edge in one spot. I was using a worn belt that I should have switched out.

Now the test.... I'm going to go pound the hell out of it and see if the heat treat holds. Wish me luck

Looks great for a first, now don't forget to tell us the results of the pounding!

Wow! That is a clean-looking blade. I love it. Congrats on a great job!

Man, if that is your first attempt, I think you've got some real talent for this! It reminds me of a Gossman, and that certainly isnt a bad thing!

Alrighty.. Living in Chicago, I don't have a lot of material for testing knives on. I had some 1x1/2" boards, some 1x1 boards, and some 2x4's. So that had to do for now.

So here's the victims:

I started with some shaving:

Then I split the 1x1/2" board. No prob:

Then the 1x1:

Then I did some full strength stabs into a 2x4:

Then some drilling:

Then I pounded it into a 2x4 with a mallet:

It's a pretty short blade, but I swung it as hard as I could to do some chopping:

Then I shaved off a bunch of the 2x4:

And finished with doing some more shaving on the 1x1/2":

All in all.. the damn thing held up pretty well. It still shaved hair on my leg after this without being touched up at all. I'll have to send it to J and have him pound it through some concrete or something lol

Very cool. I like simple looking utility blades like that. It reminds me a lot of Scott G's PSK's.

Awesome! I wasn't expecting pics that fast!

Looks like you and the knife had some fun!

If you're willing to test it for real, I'll more than happily ship it your way.

That's really impressive. I've always wanted to make a knife, but they're a lot harder to make than you would think! It takes time, dedication, skill, and other stuff (lol). Just about anybody could make a crude piece of steel, but yours looks like quality.
