First Knife WIP

Looks great so far!

I know you have the blade taped up, but those vice jaws make me nervous on that blade. It would be a shame to do all that sanding just to gouge it with your vice. I use scrap chunks of leather to protect my blades from the vice. Just a thought.

Good luck!

I don't have any leather right now but I have been using cardboard... I was still worried about scratches though so I took a look the other night and so far so good. Just a bit of tape residue

So I looked at the knife the other day and wasn't happy with the scales so after I took them to about 1000 I started filing them down a bit and removed some excess epoxy that I initially missed... Now I'm working on sanding them back up.

The other speed bump I ran into is I cannot find the info on sharpening. I thought it was in stacys thread but I didn't see it... Can someone point me in the right direction please

So I finished the handle earlier today. I think it came out nice but there are some flaws. My one screw up that stands out is the tape that was underneath the scales... Not really sure how to fix that one.

Excellent job. Credit well deserved for doing this slowly and taking it all the way. Don't sweat the tiny flaws. You may be the only person who ever sees them.

Now, put a good edge on it and cut some stuff.....prefferably not yourself :)

TIP:
If you are a bit worried about scratching up the blade when sharpening, tape it up except about 1/4" from the edge.

Thanks Stacy... I think I'll use that tip when I go to sharpen it. Would definitely suck to get this far and then scratch it up on the last step.

I just molded the sheath so the knife is in there right now but I hope to put the finishing touches on this one soon.

Stacy worked on this project with me so he took care of my HT... I'm sure he won't mind letting you know the RC on it because I'm not to sure...

Thank you for the kind words Mitchell and Crimson

Sheath molded and dried. I'm not sure if I want to stain it or just leave it the way it is.
