First Look: Kershaw Camp 10, 14, & 18

I am liking these big boys! It is good seeing them being handled to help the perspective. I like the look of the full blade and for me the lightning slot provide opportunity for snags and debris to get lodged in the knife.

Tell you guys what... Send me one with the cutouts, I'll use it like I use my machete and take pics etc... and comment back on how dirty/messy they are...

For the sheath on the 14 & 18 have you thought of something where the edge and tip are covered but the spine is not? This really helps with rapid drawing and sheathing of the knife.

I'm really interested in these knives especially the 18 and 14. I was wondering, has a decision been made regarding the cut outs? I myself would much prefer a fuller as opposed to cut outs on the 18!

Personally I'd like to see them with out the black coating, and with a leather sheath. I'm taking a hard look at the 14, but if the 18 doesn't have cut outs then it may replace some of the Cold Steel machetes that I have now.

Coating is likely to help with rust prevention. (Use em hard and put em away wet.)

I too vote to go with fullers (if votes count). :)

Bump in hope for more info and sheath pics. I would like to know when are they coming out and how much they will cost me.

I carry 10, 12, 14, 18, or 20 inch machetes 4 or 5 days a week in the jungle. The 10 with a nice sheath is a must for me. I would prefer a waterproof sheath for any of them. The lightening holes look like a great way to shift weight forward but I know that rust and debris will be another place to spend time cleaning. I G U A R A N T E E that I will be buying one of each. Just get the temper right so that i can do some real work with it.
Guys - Just a little info on the Camp 10, 14. and 18:

  • The sheath for the camp 10 will a very cool molded plastic sheath with a nylon belt strap attachment. We would like to do the same thing for the Camp 14 and Camp 18, but we have not yet finalized these sheaths, and there may need to be changes due to the length of their blades.
  • The steel for all of these knives will be 65MN, which is the same as 1065 carbon steel. This is a great working steel for the kind of jobs these knives will perform.
  • We will continue testing the Camp 18 to determine whether we will make it with or without the lightening slots in the blade. There have been some that expressed the opinion that the slots will weaken the blade, but we will bear it out with testing. Nonetheless, feel free to give your opinions on the slots as to whether or not you like them. We always like to hear what our customers think.
