First Look - Kershaw Piston

Another good lookin' knife.

Thanks for the previews.

Any idea yet on the weights for this and the Knockout ? Beefy or does the aluminum keep them down ?

Is it the pics or is this a bigger knife that the knockout (looks it, in hand)

Looks like one of Tim's designs. I like it. Looks like a bit more then 3.5" in the hand, very much blade in a small package.

Hi Thomas -

Another excellent looker.

The grind reminds me of the Volt a little.

Very nice styling, and Kershaw really knows how to do a beautiful grind.

I would want to put a deep-carry pocket clip on that to make it perfect for me.

Thanks again for the pictures.

best regards -

The blade shape and grind reminds me of my beloved NRG II, with the NRG being a hollow grind and the Piston being a Saber (if I'm see it correctly). I'm diggin' the back spacer and the lanyard attachment point. This should be one sturdy knife.

Was the NRG discontinued to make way for the Piston?

Thomas,
how big is this relative to the Zing? Paper says its a 1/2" bigger blade.
I really love the lines on the blade. This in a D2 composite blade on this would be the cats a$$!

Another Kershaw folder with a flipper sans the thumb studs? Remember the JYD II ? Is Kershaw planning to introduce more models such as these? Fast to open but perhaps slower to close due to the lack of thumb studs.

I don't see how it can be "slow" to close with no thumb stud. I'm biased though, because I really don't like thumb studs.

I think this knife looks like a great user. What's the significance of its name?

How are you closing a folder using thumbstuds? I'm sitting here trying to figure out what you're talking about with a couple different knives and I can't get it to work well with any of them even remotely quickly.

Nice size, no recurve, very good looking, aluminum handles, 14c28, no blade coating...I like almost everything about it exept for the A/O.

I'd love to give some sort of constructive criticism, or even at least a legit comment, but all I can say is that I'm really liking this one.

It's too bad there's no ETA, 'cause my wallet could use the warning.

That's a great looking knife, Thomas. Congratulations to Kershaw on that one!

Thanks for posting that first look.

So this makes a third Kershaw I'll need to add to my collection upon it's release... Another great lookin blade!!

It's ingrained into my muscle memory that I can do it (the closing of blade with thumb studs) almost effortlessly, often without looking.

Got a Skyline as my first flipper and it didn't took too long to get the hang of the flipper thanks to the instructions Kershaw provided .

My puny folder collection all came with dual thumb studs so I am kind of hesistant to using a modern folder (non-slipjoint) without thumb studs, thumb hole or thumb disc. A folder should be fast and safe on both opening and closing, which is just my 2 cents worth.

Looks nice. However the edges on the aluminum handles look a bit sharp.

Exactly. The knife design looks 'clean' and this a win for a knife that would/should ride in the pocket as EDC. If the handle would have a bit softer corners at the end that would really be great ...I am interested anyway :)

This is a design that I like the looks of. Lately I've been more called to the ZT line but I really do like this one. What's the blade length? Did I overlook it somewhere in this thread?

Thomas, thanks for giving us a heads up on what's in the pipeline. Joe/raleigh

That's a BIG +1 on the rear corners. That's what turned me off about the large Sebenza 21 and it's rear corner is mild in comparison.

That rear, spine corner, creates a a wicked hot spot in the palm - and this isn't a handle that will protrude past the grip of your hand - that would probably be a deal breaker for me now that you've mentioned it....bummer :(

It needs rounding off on the top rear corner like the Kershaw Knockout Proto pic shows (just the part that will stick in your palm)
