I've honed out damaged straight razors a few times for my brother. It is alarming to me how quickly they disappear on the stone. I've never worked on stainless, I expect it will go slower.
They're so thin and flexible, it takes attention to hone them and keep the edge straight. Especially if the stone isn't perfectly flat, which was a problem for me once. My brother has as razor that measured only .005" thick. It was like sharpening a piece of foil.
It was popping hairs before the strop. After he stropped it, there is no way in hell I would have touched that thing to my face.
People who shave with these things have balls. You could cut yourself pretty bad in a blink.
