I'd be loading 147grn's in the 9mm and looking for good prices on bulk ammo - but there's a caveat.
Caveat: Your specific firearm will choose the most accurate round for you.... It's important to find the most accurate self-defense load for *your* weapon (each firearm has it's own 'favorite' for accuracy), but if it's a design that isn't well-regarded there's a compromise to be made.
Anyway, buy FMJ bullets of the same grn. weight as your carry ammunition and practice, practice practice... The specific grn. weight and brand of cartridge you choose affects accuracy and your firearm will work better with some than others.
As to specifically which loading for self-defense, i'd start with Remington Golden-Saber's, they're pretty good as are Federal HydroShok's (they used to be the benchmark 9mm round - i don't know about now). There many great self-defense loadings these days - enjoy getting used to your new tool!!!
