First pistol. need suggestions

I'd be loading 147grn's in the 9mm and looking for good prices on bulk ammo - but there's a caveat.

Caveat: Your specific firearm will choose the most accurate round for you.... It's important to find the most accurate self-defense load for *your* weapon (each firearm has it's own 'favorite' for accuracy), but if it's a design that isn't well-regarded there's a compromise to be made.

Anyway, buy FMJ bullets of the same grn. weight as your carry ammunition and practice, practice practice... The specific grn. weight and brand of cartridge you choose affects accuracy and your firearm will work better with some than others.

As to specifically which loading for self-defense, i'd start with Remington Golden-Saber's, they're pretty good as are Federal HydroShok's (they used to be the benchmark 9mm round - i don't know about now). There many great self-defense loadings these days - enjoy getting used to your new tool!!!

No I did not try that. Although now that you mentioned it, the angle did seem a bit off. Ive actually gone ahead and ordered the cz75b. I liked it the most and from everything I read the only downfall I could find is its size and weight. It comes with a 16 round mag but I think ill get a 10 just to shave a few ounces from my hip. May carry the 16 as a back up but in all honesty if heaven forbid I every gotta use it, if I cant do what needs to be done in 11 shots, ill probably already be a goner. I'm not LE or military so there should be no reason to have more than that. Thanks everyone for their input.

Now my newest question is what type of ammo for a 9 Luger?

Nice choice

As for ammo, I've yet to hear of a CZ that was picky on ammo, so for plinking just stick to name brands like Blazer and RWS (for example). As for carry loads, Hornady's Critical Defense is probably the number 1 seller, but they're new Critical Duty is supposed to better than that. Our Hornady rep was in our shop yesterday and said they're about to step up production big time on it (because we weren't expecting to see it for another 4 months).

Hydrashocks are another popular choice.

CZs will shoot +P+ ammo, but it's not recommended, I found this that might help you about ammo (since the owner's manual is kind of scetchy

Also, I know some people who are new to handguns aren't familiar with some ammo types (which you may be educated in this since you did a lot of research). 9mm Luger and 9mm Parabellum are the same thing, so if you find a box of ammo that says parrabelum, you're good to go. 9mm is 9 x19, 9 x18 is Makarov ammo, don't shoot Makarov. 9mm Kurz is 9mm Short, or .380, so don't shoot that either.

Sorry if you already know this, but I figured I'd throw it out just to be safe.

I just bought my first handgun. My thread in in this same subforum if you want to see pics. I would say go Glock, but I am biased cause I just bought a 17. The reason I went Glock is because you get the most bang for your buck. They are incredibly reliable and in all the research I did I never found a single person who disagreed with that. The Glock 17 is a full sized service pistol, but as others have mentioned the 19 is a great gun. It would just depend on if you wanted to go for an even smaller Glock, or stay towards the "medium" Glock 19 sized pistol to maximize carry-ability and accuracy.

I have no experience with concealed carry and I don't really anticipate carrying at this point in time, hence the full sized G17 for fun.

fmajor007.... Precision Delta 147 fmj $99/K, shipping included, but 2K minimum order (comes in a USPS "if it fits it ships box)

I had my heart set on a Glock. Went to the gunstore and handled the Glock and the Sringfield XD. I fell in love with the XD. It's a .40 and it's deadly accurate. Feels great in the hand, smooth action, just an all around great gun. I've never regreted that purchase. Handle an XD before you buy!!

Oops. Sorry about the previous post Clich. I see you got a cz. Do you like it? How does it shoot?

Not yet. The one I held was already sold so I had to order one. Should be here middle of the week.
