First quick look at the 301 single blades

uh oh.

Can't justify the purchase right now... but if any of these are still available next week, I'll probably have to have a yellow one.

Gm,
I feel for you brother, I'm trying hard not to get another ........Psy, hope you get one

But, hey I just show some photos......300

If it was a 303 single blade version, I'd be a sunk duck. Fortunately this is longer than I normally like to carry - even so, still tough to resist.

303,me also,

Making comments is important when there is a thread on something individuals are interested in. It gives a little market feedback to the Buck folks. At least it plants a seed. Thats why 'everybodies' comments along a thread line are important. And thats why I keep harping on a 303 sized two blade jack. With a clip and slightly smaller sheepsfoot, even better a warcliff blade, on the same end. That would be my perfect everyday EDC. You could cut a gasket for a motor, trim the tail off a trout fly ,whittle a fire stick or even gut a elk (I have seen it done twice with a 303)......in yellow or stag....yes sir.......300Bucks

I have mine ordered. Would rather have a large toothpick, but will work with this for now.

I'm surprised that they and the Vantage are still available! I think we account for about 20 or the 301's being sold and would think others out there would also be on them.

As an aside I am surprised how long other items on there sit. Odd how some variations are loved and others much less loved.

I have similar wants, but not as a jack -- the perfect Buck to me would be a straight up 2 blade 303 stockman -- with clip and slightly smaller sheepsfoot on opposite ends. Normal two springs and no center liner construction, which I really like -- plus it doesn't matter which way I take it out of my pocket - a blade is right there handy to be opened right handed (why I like 2 blade pen type knives in general over jacks). It'd be slimmer and lighter than a regular 303, yet still thick enough to feel good in the hand. Definitely in yellow, others good too.

OK, since I carry a 301 (or my 701) everyday, I'd prefer a two blade, same size as the 301 but with the second blade either a warncliff (preferably) or a sheepsfoot in the same configuration as the 305 or 309. The third, spey blade in the normal 301 never gets used and just makes the knife thicker.

In fact, I'd love to see a 532 with a warncliff! I'd be all over that one for sure.

Zero,
Do you know how to pin, rivet and have buffing equipment....make one. I will buy a new yellow scale and pay you to make me one too. Would be good proto to show on forums an let the Idaho lookers see......

Just thinkin' 300Bucks

Ohh, that yella one is high on the hit list now.
Thanks for the pics to get me on my toes to get one.

The black sawcut handle single blade just screams edc. I can just see it cleaning trout for a stream side meal or cutting twine off a bale of hay.

I too like the pattern idea of a large clip blade and a sheepsfoot on the opposite end.

I'm thinking too -- I might be able to manage this, and it's something I'd really like to do. My problem is that I don't have a shop right now (massive frustration), but I still might be able to handle this. I'm going to PM you on this.

I just sold some brass. As soon as the funds get here, I am SO pulling the trigger on the yellow one.
Thanks again 300 for the pictures. I dont think I would have done it had I not seen the comparison.

Here are some quick photos of the single blade 301, soon to come out in new catalog as the 302......

These are from the 50 each prototypes made to test the 'situation'.
The fit and finish is a hair better than standard 301s. The scales have been polished down so that the rivets are pretty low....I like. The yellow WAS my favorite scale but the Dymondwood is a single layer of wood, not a multi-layer, all you can see under the excellent polish are lengthwise light grey striations in gloss black....I likee.
Like I said these were some of the 50 each, don't know how many or if any are left......
Now if they would make a two blade Jackknife shape with a warcliff or thin sheepsfoot blade on the same end as the clip I would be in hog heaven........300

Mine was delivered yesterday. It'll be a couple of weeks before my wife gives it to me, but I did get to give it a quick check.

I'd say the fit and finish was more than a hair better than my other 300 series knives. IMO it matches the F&F found in the GEC knives, and in some regards, it is better. Everything is just right.
-The top of the blade exactly lines up with the spring.
-The spring is exactly even with the frame in both opened and closed position.
-no gaps showing when you open it and hold it between you and a light with the spring toward you.
-Zero blade play
-Perfectly sharpened.

Once my wife gives it to me, it might never leave my pocket.

I VERY much like the look of this knife, either in yellow or the black wood.

As I'm not a big owner or collector of Buck knives, I'm a little confused: Is this a one off production or will they go into general production soon?

Thanks, W

I'm wondering the same thing.

I like the look of these single bladed 301's. I've been looking for a knife like this for a while.

I currently don't have the funds to pick one up, so I'll just have to wait for them to be released as 302's.

I could not stand it any longer, I ordered a Diamondwood and a Yellow one last night! I have 301, but I seldom use the spey blade and I like a thinner knife. They should arrive early this week. I'll give a report when I have a chance to use them.
