It seemed a bit early for the snakes to be out, but it was in the mid 80's today. Saw two big rattlers. The first one was out in the open moving into some shade.

The second one was in some shade right by the side of the trail, I walked right past but my wife spotted him.

Awesome thanks for the shots! Looks like a good day for a walk. Wheres the Mrs' knife?

I can see it being time for them to come out in Southern California and south Texas. They tend to be a bit fiesty when they first move away from their dens.

Great pics, but I am frightened of Rattle Snakes. Oddly enough I am not scared of an Inland Taipan... I live by neither of them, so that really can't be why..

I always heard they tasted like Chicken though... I should try and figure that out somehow >.>

I haven't eaten one in a while. They don't taste like chicken really. The texture reminds me of fish a little bit. But yeah, they stink something awful when you clean them. I don't mind snakes, it's spiders that I hate! I would guess that first one was close to 4', the second one looked as big too but he was curled up.

Too cool. As I opened this post I was scared I would find pictures of DEAD snakes. Glad to see that was not the case! I have never understood why men hate snakes. Fear I guess I kinda get. But hate? I mean so many of us love or at least have a fascination with, almost every other fast, sleek, potentially lethal thing we come across. Though not all will admit it, guns, knives, fire, motorcycles, fast cars, airplanes, big dogs, whiskey, and sleazy girls all seem to have at least a little place in our hearts. Hell, Discovery's shark week has a HUGE and almost exclusively male audience all seemingly drawn to THAT fast, cold blooded killer. But snake week? Never gonna happen is it? :)

Nice Pics. I used to see a lot of rattlesnakes when hiking in LA county. I grew up there and lived there until 2001.

Damn. Nice terrain you have there. That first one was nice and big.

Where are the pics of you using the Laconico Project W to make belts out of the rattlers? :) Kidding, of course.

I still have to taste one if they are good than. I will organize this somehow. Oh well.

Oh, and I don't really hate snakes at all, don't mind them. I am just scaed of Rattle Snakes. No other snakes am I scared of, just Rattle Snakes..

I did think about it actually. I haven't eaten one in a while, and my skins and rattles from years ago are all long gone.
