First "real" knife and first sheath

J'adore un couteau. Tu es trés qualifiés. Combien d'heures est-ce que couteau tu es?

OK I think that reads I love the knife. You are very skilled. How long did the knife take you?
I think the last part is wrong?

Patrice... WHAT MISTAKES? it only looks a lil unfinished. stain the handle and give it a coat of CA, then buff. Dye and polish the sheath. and VOILA' as you french guys say (;)) finished knife. Your mark is outstanding by the way!

Jason

Mike, I also have large hand. This was done with more of a 3 finger grip in mind. I will also do a version with a longer handle.

swilliamf, that's a good start. It should read: J'adore le couteau. Tu es très qualifiés. Combien d'heures est-ce que ce couteau t'as pris?
I can't say how many hours. It was done over a long period so it's hard to keep track but it took quite a bit of work.

Jason thanks, I will do that on the next knife. I am ready to move on from this one. Plus I will feel better "using" it to see how the heat threat is and also how comfortable it is.

As for the mark my father use to make some metal sculptures in the 70's-80'. He would sign ML with both letters fused together so I thought he'd like it if I did the same. The "hermine" is on the Britannia flag where my parents are from.

Thanks again for all the good words. It's encouraging.

Patrice

WOW your first thats really good i can hardly wait to see your knives after youve done 20 . kellyw

I like that! Man, this is what making knives is all about. I'd sure like to get that one in my hand and shave a little of my own arm hair. :D Nice job. Keep em coming.

I haven't really tried much of a three finger grip. When you do a longer handle, I think you will need to make a longer blade, to keep it from looking too out of proportion.

Very good work Patrick. My 6th didn't look anywhere near that good. Love the mark you use too. Very cool. Hey, can't wait to see #7. Don't skimp on the wood anymore. Your work is good enough to get some decent scales on it.

The sheath looks really good to man. Thanks for posting pics of your work!

Just to say again that the good words are really a motivation to do better next time.

Thanks a bunch.

Patrice
