Dad thinks he ordered The BA in the spring of 1996. It has three smooth pins for fasteners.
 
Took a trip to my dads this morning to get a couple of pics of his BM, SHII and BA. It amazes me every time I see them

I am a little confused. My dads swedge is thinner than mine even though they were both ordered and received at the same time. It also appears to be thinner than the 1/6 that Tyrade83 posted. The center knife in Tyrade83`s photo looks to me to be like mine. So are there three different swedges on the early BM`s?
 
Mine looked more rounded like that before I beat the coating off of it. It was fairly thick on the spine, much more so than the blade flats. I'd be willing to bet that it's the same as mine and yours under the coating.
 
gotta remember, the SHBM's were hand ground, there was varying thicknesses to the swedge as well as the spines. There was also a full sharpenned 1/6-1/300 swedge and there are a few satins that were not LE's. The Non LE satins had dimpling behind the ricaso.

That is what I remember as being the distinguishing feature of the 1/6 – the rounded top on the swedge vs. the flat top of the 1/300.

You raise a good point about them being made by hand, so there will be some variation from knife to knife.

Dad told me today he is thinking about getting rid of them and I would have first chance, so you guys are drooling and I am in full rut. But I know my dad and this won`t happen fast. I figure if I`m lucky I`ll have them in my safe by April. And thanks to everyone for the information.

It really is unbecoming of you to be such a greedy human being. Greed is the root to all evil, trust me, I know. The only cure is to send one off to clergy to wipe all your sins.
