First Sebenza

I'm in the same boat as DrtyHarry. My first two CRKs were a Mnandi and a Small 21, ordered at the same time. They both went back to the dealer as they are just too small for me to comfortably operate without fear of dropping (they were both mammoth so the concern was greatly increased in that dropping regard). The Large 21/25 versions are great fits for me as well.

In my case it started and ended(for now(two years) at least) with the small plane 21. I have not felt any great urges to try out alle the other CRK or "collect them all". The small 21 just pushed alle the right buttons for me and I really love it!!

Seems I'm in a small group though, at least here on the forum, but I believe there a lot more "one CRK owners" in the world wide knife community.

Me, too...I started with a small and did not like it so I went up to a 25, which I also did not like too much, soooo I got an Umnumzaan and it is a keeper. It has been quite a while and I have no urge to get another one but to each their own.

My first CRK purchase was a small sebenza 21 clip point plain Jane model. It's my only CRK knife for the past year. It's so good there is no need for another. Wanting another is a much different story. The collectors on here have either high income or in debt. Buy what you can afford and be happy. Knives are not investments and usually always loose money... your small 21 will be a special knife I hope. Enjoy your purchase.

As the title says, I finally broke down and bought my first Sebenza (a small 21) in new condition. Now the waiting begins... I've a feeling this will likely be the first of many? I mean... gotta have a large at some point, right?

I started out with a large and got several more before I warmed up to a small. I think the small will be pleasantly suitable for you. Only time will tell if you desire a large.
The small is great for shirt pocket carry.

Yea, I've got a feeling the small will be the most suitable. Knives like the Paramilitary 2, Benchmade 761 and Benchmade 551-1 I've found somewhat big for normal EDC. The one exception is my Benchmade 940 because it's slim and light.

The PM2 is the smallest I can carry with great comfort. I still prefer it's bigger brother, the Millie...but I can get away with the PM2. And not for nothing, bang for buck....both the PM2 and the Military are amazing knives. Standard versions come in S30V steel...but you can find some production and some sprint runs in S90V, S110V, M4, M390, Elmax, etc. I have a 52100 and a S110V on order that I have been waiting for over 5 months. I have the S110V in a PM2, and that steel is something out of this world. I carry my PM2 as my backup blade to my Military. But now that I have a Sebenza, I am mixing a few things up. I use my Sebenza for light jobs that need cutting, anything that might possibly harm my Sebenza, I will rather use my Military or my PM2. But like I said, "bang for buck", there is nothing better than a Spydero Military IMHO. The PM2 might be the most popular seeing how it is a bit smaller....I know some guys that have 10 PM2s all in different steel and kinds of scales. I'm a die hard Spyderco Military fan, always will be....the Sebenza is like a Ferrari, the Spyderco is like a Corvette...both are amazing machines, but the sex and finesse goes to the Ferrari. I know because I own both....but the Z06 will run laps around the Ferrari. ;)

Just got the knife in the mail today (which was unexpected as the USPS expected delivery date wasn't until this coming Monday). And I've gotta say that this thing impresses me right out of the box. It fits my hand perfectly (full four finger grip is possible). It's actually hard to say why I'd need any other blade... or at least why I'd carry anything else. :/

Congrats on the first sebbie! Now carry and use the heck out of it. It only gets better the more wear you can put on those handles.

I've been collecting for about 4 years now and I (for some reason) JUST got around to purchasing my FIRST sebenza about a month ago. Have probably owned a hundred or more blades, be they Spyderco, Benchmade, Kershaw, midtechs and customs and I must say, those have all come and gone. But, this sebenza will stay with me. Opted for the small 21 micarta. I think I also waited so long because I kept holding out to find one with a birthdate that held some significance to me in the variation that I wanted.

Excellent choice and yes, this is just the first! I am already on the look out for the second sebenza...

Same....will you be looking for a 21 or 25? I picked up a 25 "Starbenza" and it will be here on Monday. Hope I like the 25.....my mind is actually thinking about one in damascus. But don't know if I want it in a 21 or 25...I'll be able to decide on Monday when the 25 arrives.

This one's actually going to be my work EDC... I work in the lumber yard at hardware store, so you can be sure this thing's going to get plenty of use throughout a normal day. Already removed the lanyard (they're not my cup of tea), but left a small piece that I burned the ends on so the pin wouldn't rattle ever so slightly in the handle.

It's kind of strange... already thinking about parting with a few blades to purchase another Sebenza or two. Is it odd to go fully Chris Reeve with your knife interests???

I parted with some of my Microtech customs that just sit under glass all day long just so I can get a few more Sebenzas. I will not part with my Spyderco Military model knives, or my karambits. But the high end $1k+ Microtechs have gone for the most part.

I feel the same way about my Benchmade 940... probably the one blade I won't part with other than my Sebenza.

Congratulations! They are beautiful out of the box. And they are beautiful when you get some battle scars on it.

Will probably be sticking with the 21's for now, either another small or grabbing a large to round out the set. Who knows. All depends on what might pop up here on the exchange...:D

I should probably give the knife fondling a break over here? My thumb is really starting to killing me from all the opening and closing of the thing...

That's so funny you said that! I purchased a Spyderco TATANKA a few days back, and this thing is a folding sword and it is really hard to deploy. The thumb hole in the blade has a really sharp edge. I had to take the knife apart so that I could better center the blade, it's dead center now. After putting it back together, I had to find the proper torque to put on the pivot pin. So I kept playing with it over and over again until I found the right pressure needed and to blue loctite the rest of the screws. In doing so my thumb got cut from the sharp cut of the circle.....I think I was more upset I couldn't play with my Sebenza as much than I was with the cut. So come Monday, I'm going to smooth the edges of the circle in the blade. That....or just sell it. Got a deal on it so I could make a couple bucks. But damn, at over 5"...this thing is HUGE. A buddy of mine put a wave on it, and when he pulls it out...you hear a super loud THWACK!!! I was going to put a high polish/mirror finish on it, but I'm toying with the notion of keeping or selling. But damn.....MY THUMB!!! And Monday, my Large 25 Starbenza arrives. So I am hoping to decide if I like the 21 or 25 on Monday after running a few of my own little tests....this way I know if I want to collect 21s or 25s. lol

That's beautiful. I think that model is going to be my second CRK. My wife even approves, and that has to be a sign. :-)
