First Sword?

Since I have no clue how to use a sword I'm really not planning on doing anything with it. I'm just gonna get the first DOTD sword that appeals to me. It certainly won't be my only HI sword. I plan on owning them all one day.

This approach is certainly not a bad one. You'll end up with something that you want in the end, although you may not want to use it.

The reason that I'm asking is because these swords vary quite a bit, even in the same categories. HI covers a lot of sins in the sword department. Compare a Napoleon with an Everest Katana and you'll see that there's something there for nearly everyone. They're all pretty good and some are great, but knowing what you want now will save you a lot of money in the long run. Don't ask me how I know that. ;)

Speaking as someone who's been through the same thing in the past, not knowing how to use it and not wanting to are unrelated; once that steel is in your hand, you probably will want to. God knows I did. :D Consider a bit of professional instruction and above all, remain safe. These things hurt when they go the wrong way.

Dave I could have written those exact same words drawing upon my own experiences with swords.

Got Hanwei Katana and as soon as it was in my hand I wanted to use it. Luckily for me I had already joined a few good sword forums and was aware of safe use factors but it was personal instruction by trained Japanese swordsmanship student of MJER who took me from being a chopper to a cutter.

Having a sharpened sword in your hand feels exactly the same to me as holding a loaded handgun. Treat both with respect and use them with caution and one will enjoy the experience greatly.

And I've found it a lot less troublesome with the neighbours and such using a sword in the back yard rather than if I had been shooting a firearm.:p:D:thumbup:

No kidding. When asked, I tell them I'm practicing for a play. Hard to do that toting the AR around. Besides, my wife likes me to play in the backyard versus off to the range for the day.

The only difference between a sword and a gun is range and effort. Sword kills just as easilt as a gun with a little more effort.

A sword is just more fun!
