first tattoo

The tattoo is gona be there for life, and will just look like a saggy troll forging when you get to be old.

You'll look like a saggy troll when you're old anyway, so get the tattoo if you like it.
Buy more tools as well.

Listen!!! I'll give you a tat for free of the jaws of a set of tong. It will be really red for awhile. HEHEHEHEHE!!! Tat's are addictive as is buying tools, handle material and etc. for knifemaking.:D I got like 14 tat's and plan on getting a few more.

Tattoos aren't that pretty when you're old...that's why you get them when you're young and still look hot!

If you must tat, an anvil sounds appealing. I'd think twice tho.

Just to pipe in on Larry's comments: When you get older and you see your tattoo fading, you can go and get it touched up which is a very easy process and really cleans up the lines as you age. I got my first not to long ago and couldn't be happier. However I also spent about a year deciding what I liked and finally found a design and then waited another 4-5 months just making sure I still love the design.

The one thing I stress is to make sure you get something you will never be sick of seeing and something that has a meaning to YOU.

Excellent advice right there:thumbup:
Once you're "set" on what you want, take it and stick that image someplace you'll see it often everyday (refridgerator, bathroom mirror, whatever floats your boat). If you still love it and haven't torn it down by then...go for it!

There has been a lot of good advice good luck with your decision keep us informed on what happens with this.

Buy more tools!!! Even though I hate tats that is a cool picture.

i have allways thought an anvil with a sword going through it like "sword in the stone" but with the tip going out the bottom would look very nice.im 27 and not getting younger:D. IG i might have to take you up on that and get the whole tong as a back peace;).

Get the ink and then get the tools.I've got 7 and am getting ready to get more.Tattoo's that is.Moon

I have thought about having my name and address tattooed on my wrist just in case I get lost so I can get brought home. Just thinking ahead a few years.

If you never move house, that might work, otherwise there'll be lots of crossings out and different addresses:p:barf:
Perhaps a set of dogtags on a necklace would be better. Just thinking ahead a few years:thumbup::thumbup:

I couldn't tell a tattoo artist to pass on a knife and buy more tattoo supplies so I can't tell you to buy more tools and skip the tat.

To me, its one artist supporting another artist.

If, God forbid, you could never make another knife, you'd have it as a reminder of when you could. Not a bad memory in my book.

Post pics when its done.

BTW, I don't have any tattoos, and I wasn't real happy about my wife getting one. When she told me what she wanted, and that she wanted my design, I was flattered to say the least. I'm almost 40 and thinking of getting my first.

Must be a mid-life crisis thing (for me anyway).

Don't seriously consider the branding, I have been branded and its a LOT worse than a tattoo. I have a brand of a twisted steel bar on my left forearm.
I have wanted a tat, but could never decide on something that would be with me for the rest of my mortal life. Do what you want, but I am a serious trader, and so I always trade as a first option, and pay as second option.
Thanks,
Del

i have a smiley face brand on my left arm from a lighter when i was a teen. not the smartest thing i have done but its part of my past and i would not remove it as its memorys.

The tattoo sounds like a good idea. They're addictive though, as others have warned.

JT, I love good tattoos. I don't have one yet (but have my favorite artists) Make sure you do your research. You have to find an artist that you know you like. Make sure you like the design, etc also. A tattoo lasts a lifetime. A bad one does too (I hear lasers are very painful and expensive). A couple from my favorite color guy Kore Flatmo.

I don't personally. I have a friend with some he got in SLC (I can't remember off the top of my head if I like them......he did most to piss his wife off), I could ask him.
