first tattoo

A anvil with crossed Knife and Hammer behind it would look nice.

I have several tattoos and don't regret any of them. A lot of thought went in to each tattoo and they all have a specific and special meaning to me. If they fade, my local tattoo shop offers free touch ups.

I suggest thinking long and hard about the design you want to be sure you'll be happy with it.

personally i've got about 10 or so, some im still happy with others not so much, but they each came at a certian time in my life for whatever reason i dont have many regrets about my life or tattos.

example i have a cross on my arm which has my soon to be ex-wifes name on it, i dont think ill ever cover it up, it signifies a time when we were happy, and the women who gave me 3 of the most beautiful children in the world by far. so i dont regret getting it even if we do part ways. and if ya quit making knives it will still be there to remind you of that happiness in that time of your life.

and putting all this deep thoughts aside it's a pretty kick a$$ pic and im kinda jealous i didn't find it first.

I vote for the tat. Some people love them, some people hate them (my wife for one). I've always been happy with mine. Just be sure it's a design you have no doubts about. Keep it in a spot where it can be covered or displayed depending on the occasion. If it sags and fades when you're old,so what? It'll match the rest of the body.

The phrase "tattoo regret" is well known.

But have you ever heard of "Knifemaking equipment regret"?

I vote for equipment.

Tats are cool but so is equipment....

I would suggest finding a very good tat artist and set down and discuss your idea and let him/her draw up the design you want instead of looking all over the net for other peoples art work.

Lets see the pic when done,

Whether you get it or not is up to you. But as had been said consider it as if it will be there the rest of your life. I tend to like them (I've seen some I don't care for or don't like the position) and have 2 with plans for more. I spent a year designing the first another 1/2 year getting the design on paper then another not quite year before getting it on me. By that time I really wanted it and still like it. The second I spent about 1/2 year designing another 3 or 4 months getting it on paper and about 1/2 year before it went on me. I've spent almost 3 years designing the next on and am still trying to get it on paper. Maybe it'll make it to me before I die. The idea for the 4th is starting to float in my head.

The one bit of advise I would give is try to keep it simple. Simple looks better for longer and simple can be done smaller and still look good. I like the idea of an anvil or anvil and knife/sword/hammer/tongs/or related.

I remember what my dad told me once. Don't get a tattoo any place a judge can see it.. Good luck which ever you pick....Love the design

I had Four done well over30 years ago,, though I liked them right along though the years,
even though they could be more in tuned to today’s art form
But as mentioned they represent a space in time for me now more than anything.
one I got during the Mardi Gras in New Orleans in 1973 that was a good time
Anyway
A while ago I was thinking about getting some color put back in, in the
33+ years the red had totally gone from them all, I went to three places and they all wanted to totally redo them... :barf: there is no way anyone will put thier work over my past and the guys work
one of the guys that did some of my first tats has now pasted on.. and these are some of his past work as our knives will be years from now, I hope no one will want to regrind them in to someone else’s work.. (

Now talk about a mid life crises: D: eek:
I went out and bought my own equipment :D and recolored the old ones
I felt pretty good about that work so then put on a skull that I've wanted forever :D

Personally speaking
after I turned~40, 13 years ago
I started feeling more strongly about what others are thinking about me and my ink and the hole in my ear
I don't care what they think.. well mostly I don't care :D
I leave that problem for them to work out..
all I can offer is
do your homework , know for sure what you want for you
not someone else,
Know your artists work,
Don’t put your girl friends name on your forehead and you'll be fairly smart about it :D
Don’t get me wrong a personal decision not to mark ones selves
is ok
This was funny
My grand father, when he was young had a guy ink the Statue of liberty on his forearm arm at about eight inches tall , only to find that it was backwards afterwards, I think both of them were drinking a little at the time :) ,
you got it.. the wrong arm up :D
but it still was apart of gramp to the day he passed at the age of 84 .
It becomes part of you.
Addictive getting them ?
I will be doing more of my own, on myself.
Now that's Crazy :eek::D

yeah, what Dan said. Get the tat. Check out this tat on knife and sword maker J.Arthur Loose

do whatever feels right.

All I can honestly say is most people who dont have tattoo's cant tell you what they are like,

mine helped me along the path of changing my life postively

its not something you forget, and if you get it for a reason it will always be there to remind you.

life is seemingly about experiance and probley not so much about figuring the world out but figuring yourself out,

no matter what your body is gonna get old and wrinkly, worn and cut, broken and bruised
so you might as well do whatever makes you happy

btw the eye is no tattoo its what happens when hot iron touches the skin

An Accident ??? or as in Branded

JT, you want a tattoo, then get one and all else be damned. That blacksmith that you picked is wicked cool and would be fine covering your entire back. Up the Irons.

When I was sick and couldnt get in the shop much I did do some drawings for a new logo which would look really cool as a tat...I wanted to get a tat someday but have now decided that with my condition that maybe I shouldnt. So here is a picture of one That I am using as my new logo and a link to the others,if anyone would like to use any or part of them just let me know so I can see what you do with it.
