First time buyer

Careful...a "good starting point" will quickly become a SICK OBSESSION! Cool blades. Nice choices all around. I haven't had the pleasure of owning a CRK, but I do love my Spydercos.

Nice knives!

IMHO, S30V (especially that used by Spyderco) is really nice and will hold a nice edge for a long time. If you want a knife that is easier to sharpen but will need sharpening touch ups more often, get the VG-10. Sebenzas are sweet knives...what's really stopped me from picking one up is that their knives don't seem to hold edges for a long time and that's a must for me, going forward. If the cutting edge is using AEB-L, it's a fine steel though not super high end. I have only read a little on the steel and that was recently when I was looking at Gavko's knives (from YT). It's fairly inexpensive and easy to work with but is good for cutting, as well.

Yes i know. I will try to be carefull.
Now i'm trying to learn about metals etc and i hope i can stop at the 3rd one - the Paramilitary 2. - so i wil have of each good / most popular metal and lock mecanism flavours/combos.
If not, God have mercy.:)

Good to know about the AEB-L.

Now sharpening.
I will start with the Spyderco Sharpmaker.
Any other recomandations ? Wicked edge?

Not too familiar with AEB-L, but 304 is certainly not the cutting edge steel, it has to be the pattern steel.

I finaly got the Paramilitary 2 the all black one.
Loved it !!!

So light in the hand, perfect size, the compression lock so easy to operate and very fast.
Such a cool knive.

Can't belive i only wanted this one and before i got it i ended up getting 3 more because of all the research i've done.
So thank you Spyderco :)

So happy that i have one of more flavour and purpose.

1. Sebenza 21 w/ SS Ladder Damascus
2. Spyderco Police G3 G10 w/ the VG-10
3. Spyderco Paramilitary 2 w/ the S30V
3. SOG Tigershark 2 Elite w/ AUS-8

The Sebenza and PM2 i think the perfect EDC tools.
The Police i will put it like a back up knive just a little too big for EDC.
And the SOG, i said why not while i'm at it get a fixed blade so i can 'abuse' in the woods/camping with no worries.
And wow such a nice one also very sharp and the blade so thick.

And the pictures with all toghether.

Nice pieces.

Devin Thomas sure makes beautiful steel and Chris Reeve has the quality to match.

sa.

Thank you sir.
Yes indeed.
Ah and i just got the Sharpmaker.
First time to try it and amazing results.
Now i want to sharpen anything i can find :)

So verry happy with the Spyderco products.

And may i ask what is the complete list for all the special editions of the Paramilitary 2 and thier launch prices?

I know so far:
- Blue handle w/ Bohler M390
- Carbon fiber scales w/ S90V
- Orange w/ CTS-XHP
Anything else?

Thank you.

There are sprints and there are exclusives. If I'm not mistaken, sprints are a limited number of knives made once. Dealer exclusive are initially a limited number of knives, but can make multiple runs. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. The blue m390, for example, is an exclusive, not a sprint. Anyway, to add to your list, I have a green knifeworks exclusive in cts-204p steel. There is also a grey sprint in cts-20cp. I'm sure others with more knowledge will chime in.

Collecting these para2 sprint runs/ dealer exclusives is a slippery slope so be warned :)

Brown. S35vn
Green. Cts-204p
Blue. m390
Orange. Ctsxhp
Gray. Cts20cp
Carbon fibre. S90v

I think these are the only ones out at the moment, hope so anyway as I'm broke after this lot.
Thanks also to all the helpful members on blade forums that helped with shipping these over to Australia I really appreciate the help
Cheers rusty

I couldn't help it.
I got another paramilitary 2, the satin blade and black handle - just in case to have a back-up to the PM2.
I don't know what this knive did to me .
Now maybe a camo also i'm thinking to get :D

And by the way, does anybody know how many we're actually produces of the sprint runs?

For example how many M390, S90V and CTS-20CP ?

Thank you.

Nice blades man !! Spyderco's ROCK !!!! The CRK's also look very nice, though I've never had the pleasure.
I'm saving up my pennies for a PM2, and a Police myself.
For now I'm rocking my Delica 4 FFG, and It's an amazing knife.

I'm glad that you found us, and wish you many good years of fun and service from your new blades.
Also it's awesome to hear Sal chime in, as he frequents this forum.
The man is amazing, I'd love to meet him someday.

Thanks guys.
So 6 pupies.
Perfect.
Yes i know, i'm already on the slope :)

Once you get a knife you seriously can't stop. I started collecting at the beginning of this month and I'm almost as 10 knives...

I also picked up a paramilitary 2 very early into my collection; someone local to me had it for $100 and I had to pick it up. Amazing knife.

Thank you guys for the all the kinds words.
The same for you to enjoy them for ever and get more.
I love true quality and i foud it very rare these days in all things ...but so happy that there are a select few who makes them so good as these so hence my passion for them now.

Ah about the Police - what is the Rockwell rating for the VG-10?

Supposedly around 58-60.

They are all good knives. As you may know CR's are considered mid-tech production. If you want to spend $475 - $1,000 on a Sebenza you won't be disappointed. The price difference Is In materials used to make the knife. Thick Ti stock and semi custom fit and finish. They are made to withstand a beating and last a lifetime. That is not to say a Spyderco can't do the same.

VG-10 and S30V are very good steel. Basic difference is the VG will sharpen easier but the S30 will retain its edge longer.

IMO I would go with the PM2 before buying the CR. As you said your beginning to dabble in the tactical folder arena for the 1st time and you may decide its not for you. The PM2's cost is less than the Seb., it's quality is excellent and the knife will retain its value.

The truth is whichever you choose is a great knife. Good luck
