First USPS, and now FedEX, I'm fed up!

Good Lord....the Sabannation invades the knife forum.....you can't get away from those folks. Believe me Will, I have stayed on it. I think I will have to call my Senator or Rep on this and follow through.

Referencing other important stuff: Y'all have one good season out of the last twenty and now you are world beaters? Shoot, you have lost the last two games of the year...I hope they don't get restless over there! Sounds like we are even over the last two games though...both teams having their hearts broken at home. Good luck this upcoming season...we should be decent, having lost two showboats that never put the needs of the team over their own personal needs.

Just had to tease ya a bit like I try to do every time. Ain't no Sabannation, just The Bama Nation :D I do need to go by the Varsity when I'm at Blade this year. We'll see how things pan out but we've had to wander 20 years in the wilderness before possibly returning to the "normal" glory that is the Crimson Tide birthright. ;)

Seriously though, call the Postal Inspectors first then if they don't satisfy you contact your congressman. They are mandated to have an answer for you within 2 weeks. I know towards the end of my Army career and immediately afterward I burned up their email site. The email inquiry counts the same as a mailed letter as far as action is concerned.

If you know your congressman or senator, I would ask them for help. They have staff to deal with constituent problems, not matter how small. And yours is not small. If nothing else, it will harass the USPS staff because they can't blow off a congressman like they did to you. Good luck!!

Dog, get the 'Collectors Insurance'. I have it and my knives are covered everywhere!

Then do this;
Seriously though, call the Postal Inspectors first

I've shipped somewhere around 500+ boxes of W2 steel through USPS in the last few
years and only one box lost. It really helps to have a very good Postmaster that is
willing and wants to help!

I will not ship one of my knives through FedX or UPS!!!

All mine go Express Overnight Mail. They don't have it long enough to loss it :)

This is no joke. It moves through the system with very little internal handling and is kept separate from the ordinary mail all the way. For really expensive items, I would also recommend Registered Mail. Each hand-off inside the system has to sign for that.

I just got home from my trip to see a letter. I open the letter from a collection agency it was a collection letter threat to collect 38 dollars I already paid to UPS at the door cash. I then recieved a letter and then a call regarding the 38 bucks i straightened them out before and they still sent it to collection . UPS are CROOKS PLAIN AND SIMPLE. I now have to deal with this crap all over the last letter they sent a month ago i called and told them they ever contact me regarding this i would file a 1000 dollar small claims action against them for harrasment. I will file for 5000 and see what happens it costs me 10 bucks and my time. I will file the claim against them for harrasment and wrongful billing.I hope the judge likes me lol

I'm going to move this to FEEDBACK at this point, and leave a redirect.

hellgap, there was no need to hijack this thread, which is about delivery and insurance problems. Your problem with UPS belongs in its own thread.

They want a receipt if they lose it to pay you. All you need is a receipt, for something of that value or a little higher to get your money.
They have no idea what was exactly in the package and if it's lost it doesn't matter anyway.
For them to act like shippers can profit by over insuring on the slim chance they will lose that particular package, goes against the way insurance is calculated and sold anyway. All insurance is supposed to be sold against a calculated risk factor with a system to pay loses out of the money paid for it and make a profit.

UPS left me a big box of ammo on the hood of my truck Friday. It was raining. The UPS confirmation said "Inside screen door".

Drunk monkeys in big brown trucks.

A friend at work had UPS leave a pistol on his door-step, in a subdivision with small kids roaming about and it required an adult signature!
He called the main office and told them and they wasn't at all concerned until he told them not only did it require the adult signature it was a DAMN PISTOL!
Then they seemed to be concerned.:D

No matter the Shipper, another good habit to stick to is making sure the Return Address doesn't give a clue as to possible contents. "So and So Custom Knives" or "So and So Custom Arms Sales" wouldn't be in your best interest...

I would exercise my right to appeal to the Consumer Advocate. USPS is not obligated to pay more than the actual value of the item, but they can not deny a claim accompanied by evidence of value simply on the basis of their own inability to independently verify that actual value. If they can not controvert the submitted evidence, they have no grounds on which to deny the claim.

Also, since items insured for over $200 require a signature at delivery, absence of a signature on file is prima facie evidence of total loss. Even if there is some doubt about the actual value of the item at the time and place of mailing, there is no doubt that the individual filing the claim is entitled, at least, to a refund of the postage and fees, the value of which is indicated on the insurance receipt and incontrovertible.

USPS Registered Mail is your best bet....

That's something that's always pissed me off.
I don't care if I'm sending an empty box - If I paid for $500 worth of insurance, and they lose the box, they ought to pay out $500!

And of course there is a way to ascertain the value of a handmade knife - show them the record of your customer's payment! Of course they won't accept that, because then they'd actually have to pay the claim...

That is not consistent with the federal regulations under which USPS sells "insurance." USPS is self-indemnified and the price of the insurance is based on the cost of indemnification, which, in turn, is based on the actual values of the items at the time and place of mailing. People routinely purchase more insurance than the actual value of items because they might want to get a signature for an item valued at less than $200 (and a signature is required at delivery of items insured for over $200). Even when a customer purchases $200 worth of insurance, the payout is based on the actual value of the item - just as my automobile insurance does not pay out the maximum $1.5M for every claim that is filed. All this is expressed very clearly on the USPS website. If someone wants to insure an empty box for $500 they can do so, but they can't buy that coverage at the post office.

Yes, GZB, as far as I'm concerned you hit that nail on the head. It would certainly behoove one to misdirect a little with the return adress. Maybe, "Agatha's Dried Tofu Products'"
