I might have missed it but what thickness is the steel?

It's 1/4" 5160. So, yeah, lots of filing. I suppose if I didn't taper the tang then I could notch the blade tang instead of the handle material, but it would be pretty heavy for the overall length. I'm leaning closer to putting a distal taper and resetting the bevels, though, so it's still going to lose some weight. :fat:I might have missed it but what thickness is the steel?
I very much like no.1 and do agree that it would probably look a bit more special if the blade was longer. I'm very much enjoying all the hand work you are doing. There is a huge amount of visible effort that new makers wanting to get started might learn from your pictures alone. On the other hand it encourages me to not back away when I might see some coming into my work. To see some of my work, please go to the customknifegallery.com Frank
I'm not sure what you mean by hidden lanyard.

I didn't realize that was .25" stock.
The only suggestion I'd make is to bring those bevels up as high as possible.
That type of lanyard hole is very neat looking.
Aldo doesn't carry 5160 in less than a 1/4"?
Maybe jantz or usaknifemaker or admiral?
Admiral has .203", only one with something other than 1/4" that I found.

Still really thick.
Way to stick with the work Philipp! Just not being afraid to get dirty and tired will go a very long way!
