Anyone seen these for sale?

Or know about them?

I saw them used by Ray Mears on one of his videos...

Editted - I should have put more detail in the first post, but I thought someone might just know what I was talking about, foolish me... The item in question is a lure/fish catching device. I don't think it is a speed hook. It is a device which Ray described as a fish scissor, and it catches fish. From the image, it looked like a spring loaded set of jaws, that scissored closed on the mouth of the fish, trapping it.

Thanks,
Marion

Aren't they just kitchen shears ?? I never used shears for fish though I've seen them used in fish stores . My shears are very nicely made ,commercial type, made by Case .But they no longer make them. Proper shears come apart for cleaning but they are hard to find .Commercial types also come curved and other shapes .I have one that has a small ball at the end for cutting up chicken ,the ball prevents the tip from puncturing the skin....Many of the 'kitchen shears' are just gimmicks , not well designed or made .

OK I really don't not have anything to apply to this thread I just noticed Mete's Avatar.

Danger Mouse, we used to watch him in college after classes while we were in "altered" states. I now have a 5 year old so I went out to the auction site and bought the 1st 2 seasons on DVD. He will love them.

Imperial Schrade used to make them. Of course they added extra features to "increase utility".

These TM-8's were made in the Tradesman series, and can still be found on eBay, usually as a bonus packaged with a Safe-T-Grip fillet knife. It has a rounded notch in one blade for snipping small bones, "teeth" on the inside of the handles to act as a pliar, flat screwdriver blade and a bottle opener on the handle ends. They are fairly heavy duty stainless and I like them.

Codger , that's the kind I stay away from !!...Briggz, Dangermouse is my hero. In the UK they're bringing back the originals on tv, I hope they do it here also. Occasionally watching cartoons is the way to good mental health ,certainly cheaper than a shrink !!

I have a set of Kershaw Game Shears in the kitchen. There isn't much out there they couldn't cut :) Their biggest design asset is they're sharp! I mean like knife blade sharp. I bought em for my own use but the wife saw them along with all the other stuff I bought at the Kershaw garage sale and she claimed them.

Um. What you are mentioning sounds like a fish lipper, such as a Boga Grip, but it definitely does NOT catch any fish you haven't already caught.

I think I know what you are talking about. My father had one of these in his Tackle box when I was a kid. I believe they are used for ice fishing if I remember. I also think they are illegal here in Canada now. It is something you suspend with bait and when a fish hits it, allot like a mouse trap the jaws shut and hook the fish

Azz - You Rock.... It Is True... That is exactly the type of hook I am talking about, though I think the 'version' or specific model that was in the video was different, in fact I am absolutely sure. But, that is the idea of the thing.

Now, can you buy one nowadays?

I think there's a reason why these are so rare these days. There's little good reason for them.

The idea behind them is that you dont have to be there to set the hook. Which may be good in a survival situation, I guess thats why they use them for ice fishing. Drop the line and walk away the spring sets the hook.
