Fisk Micro Show

I think Lin was tested in more than one way, and IMO he passed the most important one with flying colors.

Amen. I learned more about Lin from his failing than I ever would had he passed. And in failing, and taking it the way he has, I'm far more likely to buy a blade from him in the future.

Well played!

I just got home from work and saw the things written. I must say, I'm moved and I really thank you guys.
Lin

Lin,

You have a lot of talent and ability, it's all part of a learning process. Whether it's 6 months or however long you're going to make a great MS.

This year's show was just great. It gets better every year if that's possible.

On Friday we visited the Bill Moran School of Bladesmithing, the reproduction of the James Black forge in nearby Old Washington, J.R. Cook's shop then finished the day by returning to Jerry's to veiw all of the beautiful knives by Jerry, Harvey and Lin.

On Saturday Morning Steve Shackleford delivered a very informative seminar which sparked a great discussion on issues confronting the custom knife industry. One of those discussions where it would have been nice to have an auditorium full of makers and collectors listening and participating.

Their was a few collectors attending the show for the first time as is usually the case. It was very nice meeting them. If anyone wants to get on the list, just give Jerry a call.

Just a great weekend of beautiful knives, knife business, great food and having a great time with friends. Got to laughing so hard Saturday night thought I would pass out.

As always, all maker's knives sold, then continued to change hands after the "draw for purchase" proceedings. You will no doubt be seeing photos of a couple new additions to the collection shortly.

I was very proud to be part of the drawing for the BFB Bowie. In case you haven't hear, Michael Talanian (aka missinglink) who is a long time collector and customs supporter won.

Next year's makers will be Daniel Winkler as our MS and Craig Camerer as our up and comer.

I'm embarrassed to admit I didn't take any photos, however there were many taken. So hopefully someone may post some here.

The weekend was great. Hard to think that the show gets better and better each year. JR and Jerry sure put Lin through the paces of the MS test. Lin did an outstanding job and showed real courage by doing the test in front of so many people. That knife was sharp!!!!!

The show is more about friendship each year that I attend. Jerry says it's like a family reunion were everyone in the family likes each other. Not to mention so many great knives.

I walked away with the Southwest Intergal, Biscuit Snatcher both from Jerry Fisk. I picked up ALT 5 from JR Cook which is the damascus and carved blackwood handle. Lin had a cutting knife waiting for me to see, but he is going to use it at the Hammer-in this weekend at Old Washington. I was a very fortunate little boy. I also drew for two Harvey Knives A Presidentio which had his first ever engraving on it and Texas westwind damascus and a damascus two bladed trapper in amber stag that I let go to a new friend.:D:thumbup::D

Chuck, that is QUITE a haul - congrats! The integral SW and biscuit snatcher were among my favorites. Please post pics of the Deans and the Cook if and when you get them.

Roger

Roger,

Kevin Jones bagged TWO of the juiciest plums, the dogstar Sendero and the Dean el Diablo. :grumpy: ;)

I Brought home the Fisk engraved, amber stag, dogstar Sendero and a beautiful Dean EL Diablo Fighter with mammoth, feather damascus, and engraving/gold inlay.

Chuck Ward photographed them while at the show, so I will post them up when I receive the images.

I was lucky the first year in drawing three then selling two and keeping the one I really wanted.
Last year I can home empty handed, however the show is well worth the effort just by the activities and good times had. Getting a knife is just a bonus.

I would describe it as a hammer-in, knife show, industry convention and family re-union all rolled into one.

Here's what I got a Fisk NLT Gamemaster with mammoth and engraving. It won best fixed blade and best of show at the Spirit of Steel Show this year. Jim Treacy
